What is the airfoil shaped thingy (I think that is the proper technical term) attached to the front fender brace, parallel to the forks (one on each side)?

If I understand you correctly they are there to direct air to the oil cooler. What they are called? I dunno

it's to deflect air to the air cooler....as bigeasy said.......if you look at the manual, they specifically say not to remove them......however I have seen carbon fiber huggers without them....

I freak-out if I took them off.
But then again I use both a belt and suspenders.

Mine are resting quietly in my R1200R parts box along with the carbon cannister, mirrors, etc. I, too, saw the catalog part for a CR mud guard (fender) without the airfoils, accompanied by a caption stating that they don't really do anything. So, off they came. The upper bolt, by the way, only holds the airfoil to the mudguard via a nut mounted in the mudguard, and is an ugly mole on the fender without the airfoil in place. The cosmetic solution came via a #16 cone washer (from my plumbing parts box) that fits perfectly over the fitting on the fender, held in place by the original bolt. A couple of days ago, I took a spirited ride through the local San Gabriel mountain roads in 85F weather and saw no difference on the panel. Still dead center.
