Wobbling at high speeds
Hi guys, just picked my 04 special edition Rockster. Took it out to sort of get bonded. Crusing the freeway I notice that when I reach about 65-70 mph the bike began to wobble when crossing a bump. It was kind of frighting and in that I purchased it used this concerns me. Does anyone else have this problem with theirs? Under 50, no problem. Any feedback would be great.

Wobbling? Not sure what you mean. I have driven a few different bikes now and must say that the Rockster is extremely stable. Even in high-speed curves with rough dilatation joints etc. Did you check the shock absorbers and tire pressure?

Check the preload is up at about 3/4, and check the tyre pressures are good (36/42 with most tyres), and check the tyres are in good condition.

By special edition I'm assuming you mean the Edition 80?
some of these have a slighty shorter paralever arm making them a touch unstable @ higher speed
easiest trick is to use the adjustable arm .....& adjust to your own comfort zone

Re: Wobbling at high speeds
wobbling may be from an unbalance wheel-especially if the weight fell off

Re: Wobbling at high speeds
Some Ed 80 had a bad front shock unit - leaked. Mine was replaced under warranty.
If the tires were changed, check to insure the front axle is properly seated/centered.
Front wheel balance, as stated.
Any hint of a front end crash? Check forks for alignment, head for structural integrity and tightness.
Check telelever retaining nut at front brace - these have come loose in at least two reported cases.

Re: Wobbling at high speeds
WOW! I am new to this form thing and all I can say is WOW! You guys are amazing. I am going to take this entire string to the mechanic I purchased it from to have it checked out. I'll post a follow up for all to read. Also, it is the 80th edition model. The front end damage suggestion may be valid. The speedo was replaced on it, he told me it just got broken, (hmmmm?). In any case, guys I pick the bike up for 6k. The speedo of course only had about 220 miles on it, but the tires looked like they have about 3k or so. I'll keep you posted and I'll be posting pictures this evening. Thanks.

Re: Wobbling at high speeds
Solved the problem; Tires. Yep, worn tires will cause the bike to wobble when gliding accross (left or right) a crack or bump in the road. After doing a little more research, I found that it's actually called a "Death Wobble", can also happen in cars, "Scary". However, I put a brand new set of Metzlers on and no more Wobble. Thanks guys.
