Angeles Crest to Ventura Ride 11-17

Post by tobes »

Here's a ride I did on 11-17.

I took off from Van Nuys, CA a little after 8:00 a.m. in cool temps and a fair amount of fog taking the 101 to the 134 to the 2 north. I was a little worried that the whole morning ride would be in fog but after fueling up on Foothill I jumped on Angeles Crest and rose out of the fog that was over the valley.

There were a lot of other riders out this morning, good to see other people riding. Then Angeles Crest to Angeles Forest and out to Acton.

I then took Sierra Hwy to Vasquez Cyn to Bouquet Cyn to Spunky Cyn. The temperature was warming up and it was turning into a really nice day. I opened the jacket and helmet vents and enjoyed the warm air.

Then San Francisquito Cyn to the 5 freeway and got an early lunch and headed up the 5 to Lake Hughes Rd and stopped at Castaic for a Kodak moment.

Then Lake Hughes Rd to Pine Cyn and onto Lancaster Rd – these are some really fun roads. Taking Lancaster Rd was a mistake as I meant to stay on Pine Cyn at 3 points but I passed an Ostrich Farm and it was a nice ride anyway. Then by Quail Lake and back onto the 5 and exited at Frazier Park and onto Lockwood Valley Rd.

The mountains looked great this early afternoon with the mist still burning off.

I got stuck behind a large truck heading up the twisties so I pulled off into a turnoff and snapped a few pictures of the valley and stretched the legs.

Then onto the 33 into Ojai. I stopped at this point where another biker had also pulled off and was enjoying the view and eating lunch. Beats sitting inside.

Ojai was jammed with people and cars. I got through there fast as possible and took the 150 out of town toward Santa Paula.

I stopped in Santa Paula for some coffee on Main St.

Then headed out to Ventura and to the beach just in time for sunset.

I took the 101 back to Van Nuys in the dark. It was a great ride and about 340 miles in total.

Great post, thanks for taking the time.
Southern California looks a lot more appealing right now than New York.

Thanks for the tour. The map really helps to understand your ride. I toured that area twice on a Buell. Once with the SoCal Buell Riders and once with the National Buell Club.

It's a great m/c area. It would be fun to do it again on my Rockster.
