Just wanted to spread the news!
I just picked up an 04 r1150r on eBay today.
Hope to pick it up and ride it home to the great white north from New Hampshire in a week or so!
Tried to buy one here from the buy and sell but the seller was "paranoid " about the sale!

I just wanted to ask what differences I can expect from the F650 I've been riding.
Thanks John

Differences? Everything except the cost of BMW service and parts!

You will love the R. Even more nimble than the very nimble 650.

Just 'more' of everything, including weight. Enjoy the ride. I've tried to get rid of mine a few times, but just can't do it. I think it will always be in the shed, next to my new ?

Cheers, Mick.

Having moved up to a Rockster from an f650CS, the extra 100+ pounds will potentially bite you. Especially at a stop.

Your legs are used to the 420 lb weight of the six fiddy. A routine stop has the potential to become an "oh-sh!t" moment on the R so pay attention.

Thanks for all your feedback!

I'll be picking up the bike from Frank at Max BMW in New Hampshire soon as I have already paid for it!

John,

Was that the red 2004 on Ebay? I was looking at that myself, but a bit far away. Seemed like a really nice bike and price.
I'm curious about the bar risors installed on it. I just test rode an 04 and found that the bars could be just a tad closer for optimal comfort for me... (only 5'7''). Is anyone familiar with where to get risors like that for the r1150R (or who makes them)? I'm looking at another used 2004 this week.

Thanks - Mike

Hi Mike

Yes thats the one from eBay.
I'm about a 12 hour drive from NH so I'll drive there and get it when I get back from Europe. I'm leaving tomorrow on a 2 week trip.
I had sold my F650 but the person backed out on the day she was to pick it up.
But I wanted a r50r and thought that this one with only 2k miles was to good to pass.
You might have noticed I was the only bidder!

What does an 04 1150 with 2k miles go for these days? :o Did not think you could find one with such low miles. Good for you! Enjoy! :smt040 :smt041 :smt026

I should have bought a used bike.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

I bought an R1150R and when I discovered that market price of my '98 F650 was relatively low especially when compared to its mint conditions, I decided to keep the 650 as well.
Main differences I found out: R1150R much better brakes and even more agile than the 650 because of its low center of gravity, of course much more acceleration in high gears but the 650 is faster in 1st and 2nd gear. Gear of the R harder to operate and some false neutral I never encountered with the 650. In traffic the 650 is lighter and easier to move around narrow passages. Watch out for the width of the engine or of the cases if you got them, much wider than the 650.
But in summary excellent bikes both of them and a lot of fun!
Enjoy your rides!!
ciao
