Very easy to find. The key for the seat is at the very rear.

Battery Location

Not having a R1200R as yet I was curious as to where the battery was, a pain to get at as my R1100S or mighty easy as in my K1200S.

It's right behind the tank and is easy to access. The manual even says that it's an Absorbed Glass Matt battery. :smt023

Charger type

Post by 8b »

I have a Deltran "Battery Tender Plus" charger and also a BMW advanced battery charger (that is obviously made by Deltran also), but neither of these charges I had for 3 years or so specifies "specially for GEL batteries", does anyone know if our R12R's do indeed have a GEL battery and either way, are my gode old chargers perfectly suited to charge the R12R? Also, I had heard that due to the "single wire" arrangement on the R12R, you cant charge the battery thru the standard accesory socket like I did on my F650 CS an dmany others do on various models...Is this true?
I saw a deal put a little pig tail on the battery and have the wire come out from under the seat for charging purposes so you wouldnt have to use the alligator clips, is that the best idea? Any and all detail on this is appreciated!

I taped my OEM can't bus 12V port up and secured it under the seat. I bought another port and wired it to my battery and use my battery tender plus to keep it charged. This way I can charge my Ipod while at a rally with the bike turned off. I also wired a fuse box under the seat for radar detectors and what not.
