This may interested those of us that may be big boned, tall, broad shouldered, or whatever and cannot see anything but their lovely elbows in the rear-view mirrors.

I got a set of K1200R mirrors (oval) and that made all the difference. I can now see behind me/next to me etc. without moving my arm/head. Makes it much easier to keep an eye on traffic around you than before.

If you're interested here are the part numbers (you'll need 2 of each):

Just wondering what those three parts are....I know the R1200R has different mounting than the 1150..do you have a pic?

btw I have them also (mines a 1150)..Mine are from the 1200 Cruiser..and you can see better..and they look good..IMO.

SW-Motech mirros wideners? Not listed for the R but the ST and GS have the same part number - SVL.00.505.102 ... wonder if they'd fit the R? There's also a fine-thread version for 1150R - SVL.00.505.101

The R12R mirrors are the regular screw-in type, whereas the K12R have a smooth end that fit into a metal chuck and get tightened with a nut that fits over it. Somewhat like on a Dremel.
It's parts 2 and 3 on this drawing, but it's not real clear.

Ok fellow riders. This is one you may want to seriously consider. While having a tire changed at my dealer, I walked the floor for over an hour, pondering what I could do about the horible rear view this bike has. It is almost to the point of being dangerous and became my priority next option / acessory. I also looked at the mirror on the K1200R, and do admit that it is probably one of the sexiest of BMW's offerings.

I have seen in photos the mirror on the ST and it looked very similar in shape to the ones from the RS that I ordered to replace the round mirrors on my 03 GT. It's more of a rectangular mirror with curved edges than it is oval and IMO offers much more information. You will need not only the mirrors from the ST but also the ST mounting points as the ST mirrors are also smooth on the bottom. Not threaded as in the R.

Ok, this is where it gets good....you just spent about $130. Now, go ahead and spend another $3.50 and go down to your local hardwear store and get this really cool stuff made by DAP. It is an aerosal caulk. It has a very fine nossel on it and squirts like whip cream. Now go out to your garage , take those brand new $100 mirrors and drill a small hole, slightly larger, but next to (1/4") the existing air hole on the bottom. Be careful (You can do this man!). Now cut the tip of the calk nossel close to the end so the opening is very small. Insert into the larger of the two holes and squirt several ounces of calk into the back of your mirror. Note: do not overfill as you can make them quite heavy. If you do overfill...fish out the excess with about 3 ft of weed whip line and a rag. Allow one day to dry.

Sorry for the length of this post but if you do what I have told you ... YOU SHALL BE REWARDED WITH THE MOST EXCELLENT REAR VIEW YOU HAVE EVER HAD.

Why not just buy the chromed oval mirrors for the R12R?

750kr (about US$111 with todays exchange rate) each from my BMW dealer. Will be buying mine next week!

Those are great looking mirrors and (almost) exactly the shape of the K12R mirrors. Chrome is just not for me anymore. After selling my Harley I want as little chrome, billet etc as possible. I like to wash and dry my bike without having to spend hours polishing. I got the brushed exhaust can for that reason as well.

However if you have the chrome can, I think these would look great on any R12R, but especially a black one like yours.

Dunno if I'll get the whole system or just the can though - I can't really afford either lol! The system has no dip in the power curve:

I only want it because it will match the black bike perfectly!

I dig the oval mirrors. They just made my wishlist.

I got the chrome can and am a bit sorry I did. Will be looking to swap it for the brushed one at some point. For now I can't see it from where I sit
