Finally got to 50 mpg

I know the engine takes time to break in and get all sealed up and the like. Previously I was happy to get in the neighborhood of 45 mpg. The last two tanks were at 50 mpg and those weren't easy miles!

Oh, yeah, some 3600 miles on the bike.

Just about the same time mine went to 50... Now at 4800 miles and averaging 51 mpg per tank. Sometime up to 62 showing on the computer.

I got 50 mpg (calculated) with a little over 1000 miles on the bike. Last fill was 47 mpg with lots of city riding. I only go by my calculations. I don't trust the computer.

Just got back from a 425 mile day trip, solo ride, bags on, traveling light. I got a shocking 59mpg's. computor said 54 and an average speed of 49 mph(two lane the whole way) The odo has 4800 smiles showing.

I do both - and have found the computer quite accurate - usually within 0.2 MPG of what I calculate.. and I figure variances in how high I fill the tank account for that margin of error.

That also gives me some confidence in how far I can take the bike based on the OBD readout of remaining fuel.

I would never trust the travel computor, I have found it to be a good "ball park" measure. My amazement with this bike is the leap in performance over my R1150R. Mpg is 20% better with a large increase in power and It's smoother too. LOVIN IT!

I have about 1k miles on mine, but am only getting around 36mpg. Anyone else getting this little mpg? Seems like when I first fill up, it will show around 45mpg, but slowly drop off to about 36. If I reset the computer it will show around 45mpg again, but when I do the calculations at fillup, it turns out to be around 36....

Hi there

Seems I got a Sunday bike.
Cruising through the mountains, mainly on small and twisty roads and at a speed I believe is just about safe, I consistently get 57 mpg (4.1 l/100km)
That means I typically fill up after like 450-500 km.
This value is both from the computer and in-the-head calculations. They coincide perfectly all the time. Good computer!
(The above explains why, coming out of a fuel station, I always have that slightly absent calculating look behind the visor....)
So besides all the other advantages of this near perfect bike it also has a mighty enormous range!
(But yes, I'm also looking for a more comfortable seat.)

BTW
Crystal grey bikes are the fastest. The matte granite paint has just too much drag. The black paint heats up in the sun and makes the tank expand resulting in too much wind resistance and the pinstripes simply act as windbrakes.

I also got good economy from my first ride. After reading the postings here I assume this is due to the higher rated fuel available here in Europe. I use 98 RON rated fuel.
