Edelweiss tour - 8 days on an R1200R

8 days, 1300 miles, 5 countries on an R1200R. What a bike!

I previously owned a 2003 R1150RA which BMW took back after my dealer was unable to cure a lot of surging and stalling. The 1200 is an entirely different bike. I must have one now!

Anyone want to buy a 2007 Goldwing airbag model with <500 miles on it??

I just recently got back from a tour starting in Switzerland, through Austria, Germany, back to Austria, Italy and finally Switzerland. Also on a R1200R.
Tour included: Arlberg, Bavaria, the Tirol, Obersalzburg, Kitzbühel, Gerolpass (+Krimml), Grossglockner, Jaufenpass, Ofenpass and Fluelepass. The last day was 605 kms, 4 passes and 11 hours riding and I loved every minute of it. I can post a GPS route which you can open in Google Earth if you all like.

It was sensational, both the tour and the bike. I couldn't think of a better bike for such a trip. The autobahns weren't particularly fun, but they never really are.

I did a tour last year on a Monster, which I could only manage about 300 kms per day because it was just very hard work on the Duc. The Roadster was a piece of cake; faster, more powerful, more stable, more precise, lighter and agile, more comfortable (but that seat needs work), safer, more economical, longer range.....this list goes on and on.

No regrets!

(well...except the ASC is a bit of waste of money and I should have gotten ESA).

Would both of you please post more about these rides, the routes (route on Google Earth would be great), and more on the how the bike was on the ride?

I am thinking of one of the Edelweiss tours and getting an R1200R. This is just the type of info I need.

Are you guys sending your bikes to across the pond here, or taking EU delivery of new machines and riding? Or is there a tour company I need to look into? Wow.

I would totally be interested in prices and logistics of sending the bike from the U.S. over for one of these tours.


Regarding the ESA - LOVE IT!!!!!! The wife gets on and I rachet it up. I go solo and rachet it down and tune it to the ride. Comfy for those horrible city roads and sport for tearing up the pavement in the mountains. It really tops of the "all around-ness" of the bike.

Edelweiss has a lot of nearly new bikes for their tours. The R1200R I rode had 1400km (840 miles) on the odometer.

I did the May 29th "Best of Europe" tour. Munich - Rotenburg - Heidelberg - Obernai (France) - Titisee (Germany) - Luzern (Switzerland) - Warth (Austria) - Munich.

The bike I rode had 1400km on the odometer. Check out the tours at http://www.edelweissbike.com The other bikes in the group were GS1200, R1200RT, GS650, K1200LT, Honda Deauville, Suzuki Vstrom. The tour guides carried a Ducati Multistrada as a spare. But no one wanted to ride it!

Ah - the usual ride it = buy it, especially if you get a good "test" ride (mine was 60 miles.. I can't imagine the Roadster lust after 1,300 miles.. must be almost unbearable.. )

I'm sure you'll be posting with one in your sig within a few weeks (it does that to people..)
