Parking on commercial companies concrete patios

Post by Marku »

I aways park my bike like a car in a stall when shopping or whatever. And lots of times I see motorbikes parked on the sidewalk/patio of the business. I think that's a good idea since asphalt in parking lots can get quite soft on hot days.

Anybody no the rule to this? I'm sure it's universal.

It depends on the business, and WHERE you're considering parking.

It is always good to ask.

I arrive at work several hours before my store opens. I park on the concrete right up next to the building, but away from the entry doors.

I'm quite certain, however, that if my baby were to "mark her territory" with an oil drip, I'd asked to cease and desist.

Not sure the rules on this but one time i parked on the concrete near the entry by the pay phones at a supermarket. My bike had backfired when I was starting it and it was really loud... someone literally hit the deck thinking it was a shotgun or something, I shrugged at the guy and rode off heheh.

After a hundred unimpeded parks in the front row, I've learned to think about it like this:

1. Hot asphalt is bad for everybody ... you dump a bike and they get torn up asphalt. = Concrete
2. A hot bike needs rest in the shade ... you've been riding her hard, she needs rest, and you don't want to sit back down on that smoldering seat. = Concrete + Shade
3. Hoodlums prefer bikes ... Park it at the back of that lot and leave her a few hours on the wrong side of Beverly Hills and you're asking for a key job, a case crack, or ... where DID I park my bike. = Concrete + Shade + Close
4. You have a cool bike ... you like to look at it and so does everybody else; it's an experience just to behold. You're doing everyone a FAVOR by parking it close (inside you already know this). = Concrete + Shade + Close + Highly Visible. :D

If there ARE rules, nobody else knows them either, so make up your own and stick to them. Just be very safe, use common sense (keep it out of the way and don't drip oil ... backfiring is a wild card!) and never, EVER look around nervously after you've parked. 8)
