Recent Trip

Just got back from a little tour. Some of my plans changed as there was snow in Yellowstone, requiring a bit of a detour. The trip went from the Denver area, up to Thermopolis WY, Down into the Black Hills, Through the Bad Lands and then in to Nebraska to visit Mum for a couple of days.

Believe it or not, the ride back from Nebraska to Colorado was really a great ride. Well maintained roads. Very few cars. Great views.

The attached link will take you to some photos that I took. I am now regretting not getting off the bike to get photo's of the snow on the passes, the scenery in the badlands and the gorgeous roads in Nebraska.

Thanks DJ. The goats were pretty coll jumping up and around those rocks.

Great Stuff!!, It brought back memories, I am planning a trip to Denver and then on down to Santa Fe, I was kind of wondering how the ride would be from Neb. to Co. Did you take the interstate or back roads? Thanks Den

I used to live in Omaha and have traveled the interstate between Omaha and Denver many times. Boring. Long. Would not want to do it on a bike.

I can't seem to figgure out how to attach photo's to this site, but if you click on the link below, it should take you a pic of the route I took through Nebraska. My trip to Denver started in O'Neil, but I have to say, the traffic was very, very light.... the roads were good and the views were much better than you would get along the interstate. Highway 2 is considered a senic byway for this part of the trip as is higway 385.

Tony,

Do you have some pictures of Thermopolis? I've been thinking about going there for a couple of years now. Did you go through Dubois, WY too? That's one of my favorite places.

And what is the name of the river running beside that canyon road with the tunnels? Where is it?

Looks like a great trip. The goat shots are great.

Hey GypsyRR,

I did not make it through Dubois. It was on my plan, but I re-routed through toward Thermopolis due to forcasts of snow in the Yellowstone region. Bummer, but glad I heard it in advance rather than riding through.

The canyon with the tunnels was a great ride indeed. It starts about 5 minutes South of Thermopolis. The river is the Bighorn river and it winds through Boysen State Park and Wind River Indian Reservation. I had stayeed the night in Thermopolis, so HAD to go back and ride that canyon the next day with the bike unloaded.

Other pictures that are from Thermopolis are the bison, the old bones and the hot spring.

I was pretty dissapointed to have missed out on getting to Yellowstone, but I ended up having a great time.

If you do get to Thermopolis and are going to stay the night there, consider the Holiday Inn. They have a mineral spring hot tub outside and it feels GREAT after a day of riding. I had planned on camping, but after being cold all day - I just decided to heck with it and got the room.
