Hi,
My name is Bob and I got my R1200R on May 17th. Finally. I've only wanted this motorcycle since the early '70s R75/5! It is hard to find enough good things to say about this thoroughly modern incarnation of that bike. (I would like to get my hands on the sadisitic SOB at BMW that won't let me rev it past 4000 rpm for the first 600 miles, though! This bike revs too freely to make that easy and really wants to let loose a little. Oh, well, it won't be long...)
I'd drool on for a while, but I have a serious tech question to post that I'll put in a separate post. For here, just wanted to day "hi" and "glad to own the bike that makes admission here possible!"
I'm a believer

Welcome aboard.
I know you are obeying the RPM limit like I did. Except for the one time when passing the and the object of the pass decided to floor it as I was aboat to clear the rear bumper. One time. That was it. Really. No, no kidding.
The R1200R is just a classic motorcycle.

Come on rtallent, you just got a BMW. 600 miles should be drop in the bucket. I put about 2000 miles on my 04 1150R this month alone.
Just razzin' you of course!
Welcome aboard and just keep thinking how much fun it will be they day you take it home from the 600 mi. service! I would be planning a nice ride for that day!

Hi Bob: Welcome to the group. Don't worry about the rev limit, the engine is made to spool up and doing a "motoman" style break in is not going to hurt the engine at all. Just don't hold at one speed for a long time.
Whats your serious tech question? We dont tend to be too serious here: have fun
Oh... several problems with the bike you should be aware of:
1. The foot peg feelers seem to scrape a lot.
2. My face hurts after I ride the bike. Permagrin is a chronic problem with R1200R riders.
3. Crotch Rocket drivers will hate you for your comfortable riding position. They also tend to take offense to the fact that a BMW can easily pace them without all the up/down shifting they are having to do in the twisties.
I have a rider report dealing with a number of things like windscreens etc you might be interested in here:

ka5ysy,
Thanks for the info and link. I, too suffer from premagrin and must confess to having exceeded the rev limit slightly a few times so far -- can't be helped!
My serious question was about the luggage locks. Here's what happened:
I bought the bike with side cases. The left side case was backordered. The dealer tech rekeyed two locks, inserted one into the right case and put it aside. Meanwhile bike was delivered. When the left case came in he inserted the lock, but I already had my key so he couldn't turn the lock to fully mount it. When I turned it, I got it into the wrong position, so I can't turn the key. Happily it is in the position so I can open the case, but I can't mount it! Grr!!
Anyway, I found this: http://www.ebbo.org/re_keying.php and now I'll fix it.
Cheers!
