Bash-4 on-bike video

Post by CycleRob »

It's been referred to here and there in posts about the bash and because only 16 downloads of it have occurred so far, my guess is that either a lot of people are using dial-up modems -or- the link got buried too quickly by additional posts. Anyway, this is my best on-bike video so far. It's a blast down a very twisty mountain road then a short trip thru town to the Old Clark Inn with the bikes parked out front on Saturday evening. I got lucky. There were green lights and no police in the area. The roads were very pebbly and dirty so my dirtbike past really helped. Had the roads been clean, the horizon tilt certainly would be more than you'll see in the video. Funny, it didn't seem fast and dangerous like it looks. Unlike Bash-1's to-the-edge ride at the Dragon, I still have 9mm chicken stripes after Bash-4 because of the grit. Below is the copy-n-paste from the GroupRides section:

Here's a 37.9MB downloadable 2.5 minute long .AVI sample of what you missed. Just enter the pictured security code digits you see on the right side of the screen, click "download" and it's yours! This is, as you'll see, one of the roads, 219, that take you to our Motel. As luck would have it, this one was strewn with pebbles and sand, prolly from big trucks sloppily transporting it. The road between the wheel tracks is covered with that debris and it made for a challenging but ultimately accident and ticket free weekend for everyone. My group had a blast! Watch the subtle 2 wheel slide about 24 seconds into the video.

Here is the Makeshift HomeMade Bracket that allowed me to take such a steady video using my Casio Exilim Z-55 five MegaPixel camera.

My dial up is killing me, sorry I can't veiw your post.
Regards the gravel on the roads. We got caught in the rain on Route 39 from Gauly Bridge to Marlinton on Friday. When all the dirt from the logging trucks and the coal dust from the coal trucks mixed together with the rain, it was very slippery. My bike looked like I had been dual sporting.

Saturday was much better, after the roads had been washed clean.

I tested downloading it after clearing the temporary internet files cache to make sure it will absolutely be the download I'm viewing.

I had no trouble. You enter the 3 digit security code, it pauses about 15 sec, then the download window pops up. Selected "Save to Disk" and 8 min and 40 sec later the download was complete on my DSL's 1.5 MB connection. Then I located the file where I saved it (on a 4GB FlashDrive) and when I hit enter . . . . . it loaded and played to the end. An .AVI file is a video file is one of the two, .MPG being the other, that's playable by any video player. I use Stamp3, that uses the MS Video Player "engines" but with much more control over what happens. You can D/L it HERE

As a former Dial-Up modem user, I know how you feel !!
DJDownUnder linked to many huge file videos that I just could not D/L because it would take many hours. This file's 37.94MB is a choker for Dial-Up but not bad for the BroadBand crowd. Troubles downloading the file may happen with slower computers if you are multitasking (net surfing) while the D/L is taking place. I chose GigaSize because it allows free On-Line storage of HUGE files that you can hot-link to for anyone to D/L.

Scotty, Are you still there?

I didin't have any trouble at all. It was great, Rob. Thanks. Only wish I could have experienced it. Reading the posts though, I don't think I'd be able to ride in your group yet, anyway. I need some more riding experience.

I'm hoping for a Bash/Rally/Something where I get some coaching on riding and some coaching on working on my bike - like just some of the yearly maintenance stuff (and maybe a session where someone chops the fender and relocates the canister on my bike). [-o< [-o<

Uncle Robby,

I'm sure I successfully downloaded it, saw three different addresses at the bottom of the page, but it wasn't as simple as clicking on 'em. I suck.... can't figure it out.

(I use my little Nikon camera and stick the resulting movies on YouTube.)

Sooo.... what am I doing wrong?

There have been 41 downloads so far and the time it will still be available is 88 days. Time enough to borrow someone's broadband connection usage and put it on your FlashDrive.

Here is a link to the camera that took the video and the pics I have yet to add to the other posts on the subject:
http://www.casio.com/products/archive/C ... om/EX-Z55/

On another note, that little camera and uncle Rob became a huge hit to my niece that realized I had the only 2min45sec full video of their first dance at her wedding last Oct. The song was "At Last", extremely well done by a Vegas quality show band her $tepfather hired. I took 24 pics, 12 audio files and 2 movies. PM me if you'd like the D/L link to the 127MB Zipfile. Because of the personal nature of the media, I'd like to limit it to members that consider themselves friends of CycleRob - - - you know who you are. Please don't let this portion hijack this thread.
