Slimy Crud Run Sunday May 6th

Post by motorcyclepanzer »

I rode with Rob Himmelman's group from Oxford, Wis. If any of you guys there saw a hottie with horns on her helmet she was with our group too. Her name's Denise.

Denise is pictured here with my friend Paul from work who rides a VStrom 1000 and a Hyosong 250. Today he rode the 250. I was amazed at how well that little bike could hand with our "big bikes". Plus he was getting over 80 mpg while doing it!

Our route took us on some of the most scenic meandering roads in Columbia and Sauk counties. We logged nearly 80 miles when it's actually only about 35 "as the crow flies" from where we started.

This is Arlene, Rob's S.O. She and I live near each other so we decided to ride back to Adams together. Her bike is a very cool R100 Mystic, which is the precursor to my Roadster. I must say we made a nice pair. We ended up taking twisty roads all the way to Reedsburg then Lyndon.

I had two "oh sh-ts!" on the way home.

"Oh sh-t!" #1 Ever get a vehicle in front of you that had that "look" that gave you that "I should stay clear of this one" vibe? I got that when a big 5th wheel gooseneck trailer with an ancient Massey Harris pulled out in front of me. As soon as he straightened out the battery came tumbling out of the tractor!

"Oh sh-t!" #2 I made a rookie error. I was staring in my mirror watching to see if Arlene made it through a gravel-covered curve and suddenly I'm on the shoulder! My training kicked in and I pulled in the clutch, lightly applied the brakes, and when I was at a safe speed steered the bike back on to the road without incident. This is the first close call I've had in a while. A good reminder not to get too confident in my ability.

Great mix of classic and modern bikes! Haven't seen some of those for a long time, particularly the old Guzzis.

The Suzi must be easy to turbo, as there are a few floating around Sydney. Can't imagine 'WHY' though. Thanks for the writeup and pics. Mick.

That's the great thing about the Beakster. More than 10 years separates these two bikes in age and yet they still look good sitting next to each other. The Roadster has a look that really is timeless.

Nice pics!

Is that a camo seat on your bike in the last pictures?

As Jeff Foxworthy says, "You might be a redneck if . . . "

But since I am for sure a redneck, I like it! :D
