Better Gloves

Post by mcollect »

I have two pair of Olympia gloves, after a few hours riding I find that the tips of my fingers hurt. This is where the fingers are sewn together, poorly I might add. Also the thumbs are sewn in such a way that the inside rubs where they are sewn. What gloves are good for longish trips? Spring summer and fall, not winter.

I picked up a pair of these on e-bay. Very comfortable. I don't miss my mesh gloves at all. They don't offer much in the way of insulation for cool mornings, and not waterproof. Still my favorite golve to wear.

I use a pair of deerskin gloves and I have tried elkskin. Both wear very well and are comfortable. I find mine at a good farm supply store.

I like the Lee Parks gloves as well, a little spendy, but they seem to be well worth it. Only had these a few months, but fit very nicely and are well made.

The others I have liked, and worn for YEARS, are deerskins for Thurlow Leatherworld in San Diego. Very comfy from day one, and last a long time. Like Lee's gloves, these you won't find in many shops these days so mail order only. Thurlow also makes a somwhat wider variety of glove than Lee, might be worth looking at both...

Happy shopping! BJ

I'm dropping big time hints for Held "Steve" gloves for Father's Day. Certainly not cheap. But I pulled on a pair and began lusting on the spot.....yeah, shoulda bought 'em for myself.

I've never heard anything but praise for them. But in the deep south I mighthave to lay them aside for summer.

FWIW I have some Olympia mesh and like 'em fine. Mesh is a pretty good thing in Alabamastan.

JCsman - don't give up on the Steve's for summer. I wear mine year round, and while WNC ain't Alabama, they breathe well and are comfortable. And dry soft if you get them wet and sweaty!

I'll swear by the Held Profi gloves. NewEnough.Com has them on sale right now for $92USD.

I ordered another pair, so that I would have a spare pair.

I can't believe how expensive those Held Steve gloves were. I went to Bob's to try them onto get the right size. Renee let me try on the IT guys five year old pair, they were better then the new. Noticed I said were, they felt so good on I just bit the bullet. Thanks for the suggestions.

I am wearing a pair of deerskin gloves with gel inserts from ebay currently. They are China origin and "fit like a glove" HA! actually they are great for the $ but the gel inserts suffer from use in that they will move out of their interior pocket somewhat and must be dinked with a bit. Having had Carpal Tunnel Release surgery in both hands I was seeking anything that pads the heel of the hand, as it remains less tough-seems to be a permanent situation- after you have the surgery. There are deerskin gloves on ebay that fit great and are very reasonable in price compared to the ones discussed in this thread.
If you are in the Rocky Mtn west area you will find a better selection of the deer/elk work gloves in places like retail lumber yards as they are a more common choice for a work glove by building tradesmen there.Ebay is a source too. On the net see "the workingmans store"for real deals. I have bought elk gloves in Walmart ,but as usual , one never knows what they have for sure.
I would like to hear of any gloves that CTS types have found to be useful???BTW,the surgery took me from two totally numb hands to riding again!!!
