R1150RT Clear Indicator lenses

Post by Philbie »

Last night whilst looking for a larger screen for my RT I stumbled across both clear and smoked indicator lens for the front of the RT.

Anyone have these and how hard were they to fit? - are you happy with the mod?

I really like the look with these new lenses - a low cost option to add a nice cosmetic change.

I did mine..They are low cost..(sort of)..but you also need to change all the bulbs/globes..and depending on what type the price varies alot.

Also IMO they are not as safe or as viable in bright sunlight..but I still like them.

Phil...if you have ordered the BMW clear lenses you may find that they will not fit without a slight mod.

Once you take you orange one off..put it beside the new clear one..looking at it from the end with the long tab..you will see that there is a small tab about 2mm square that is on the other side of the long tab and will need to be filed off before they will fit..don't try and force them.

Also..the old screws that hold the lens on is very likely to crack the new lenses if you just screw them into the new lenses..use a little soap or lube of some kind and carefully screw back wards and for wards little by little until all the way in..they are very brittle.

I can post some pics if you need to help explain more.

Also re the bulbs/globes..did you also order them from BMW..I did and mine were wrong..you need to hold the old globe along side your new ones and make sure they are identical..re offset pins etc.

I ended up going up to Autobarn and getting mine..you can also buy silver globes/bulbs that glow orange...that's what I have...orange globes make the clear lenses look orange because they show though the clear plastic.

Nothing is as it semms..is it.. :D ...good luck.

Thanks for the tips DJ - I have only ordered the lenses, I thought I could get globes at Autobarn, so I'm glad I waited.

I'll checkout the rest when they arrive.

Should be a good look - only wish they did a light for the rear of the RT as well, still, I never look at it anyway.....

Cheers,
