My wife now has her own 'bike'

I've been teasing her none stop about it, but she went and bought a Burgman 400 for her first ride. I wasn't too thrilled about it, but if that's what its going to take for her to get into riding so be it.

You need to start somewhere. Took Mrs. North a few years of smaller models to work her way up to an R.

The Burgman is waaay cool. Bet when she's off at work or out with the girls you'll go for a spin

Not to worry about your wife's ride! SweatMark and I were out on Hwy 101 and got passed by a couple riding 2-up on a burgman (gots to be going the speed limit in Oregon these days!!).

I started with a Rebel250, then a Vulcan500, a sportster and an SV650. I love to ride, and have finally found "it" - I picked up my 2002 RR on Friday. Hope your wife has as much fun with the Burgman as I've had preparing for my RR

You won't be laughing when she leaves you for dust on it! - big scoots are now surprisingly nippy, especially off the line.

I had a Honda Silverwing 600 up until I bought my RR (via a '77 Goldwing, but that's another story) and there's less in it than you might think. If you ask her nicely, she might store some of your gear under the seat too when you get where you're going.

Scooters are cool. At the Honda Hoot a few years ago a friend suggested I test ride the Burgman 650. I took it an insult and threatened to whip his ass. Not really. I rode it, and it was a lot of fun. Since that time I've developed a scooter fetish. Last summer I bought a Yamaha Vino 125 to ride in the hood, to the grocery, and to the park. Just for quick, short trips. They are a lot of fun. When it warms up I'll have to take the scooter to cruse for fat chicks!

Speaking of scooters, have you seen the Vespa MP3? That looks like and interesting animal. I'll have to ride it at the Hoot this year.

I have a scooter fetish also. At Cross Country BMW's Open house yesterday, there was a demo of the MP3. It's made by Piaggio. Dual front wheels with linkage that make the scooter tilt like a 2 wheeler in turns. the coolest thing.

We we're looking at at brochure of the MP3 whilst Scooter shopping. Neat looking rig. I get to ride her new Burgman home tomorrow from Toronto, to Bradord. Sure hope the weather cooperates.

There are two different three-wheeler scooter brands, can't remember the other just now - but they are getting good reviews. Don't buy one on spec just yet though - there are 500cc versions in the pipeline

Touchton - shouldn't you be on a bicycle 'in the hood'? I'm after a Monkey bike or a 'disposable' scooter for local trips / leave at the railway station etc, but my wife correctly points out that pedalling a few miles when it's too far to walk would be a lot better for me & the planet ...

By return, I comment on the irony of driving an X5 to the gym of course

I rode the MP3 today. When I got to Birmingham for the race, I stopped by Borart's Motorsports to get a new front tire. They let me take the MP3 on a test ride while I was waiting. They're real nice people at Bogart's.

It's an interesting beast to ride. At speed, it rides like a scooter. When you slow to about 3MPH you can lock the front suspension and keep your feet up when you stop. The locking is a manual process (hit a button with your right thumb) and it takes a little practice. It's a little freaky stopping with your feet up.

The handling is interesting too. It was a bit windy today but with three wheels, the MP3 stays planted. I didn't get blown around at all. Through curves it was like a scooter..... Low speed turns are real easy with the MP3. I had fun doing tight figure 8's in the parking lot.

The MP3 is the first thing I've ridden that has a CVT and a tach. It was interesting watching the tach and the speedometer when taking off. The tach would quickly go to 7000 RPM and the scooter would keep accelerating. That's the way they work. It's just different from what I'm use to.

It was fun riding the MP3, but I don't think I would want one. I would like a GT250 or GT200 though.
