"hot" smell
Howdy fellow RRers,
I just got the bike out of storage for the season and rode it to work yesterday and today. (woo-hoo!) The ride is about 10 miles each way, mostly back roads. It definitley makes the commute to work a bit more entertaining.
Anyway, I have been a noticing a hot kind of smell. It reminds me of the smell of the venders carts in NYC or Phila. selling burned "soft" pretzels. I can't locate the source. I am wondering if it icould be something electrical.
Any thoughts what it could be?

Not sure if it's the same smell, but mine sometimes had a certain smell about it when hot. I can't put my finger on what it smells like, but it's not particularly unpleasant, in fact by association I quite liked it! Maybe it's just the smell of dust burning off the cylinders or something.
The 1200 smells as well, but slightly different to the 1150
Perhaps it's one of those "they all do that" things again?

Smell
Roast lamb impregnated with garlic and rosemary, slow-cooked on a bed of mixed herb stems, with lightly roasted potato, pumpkin, fennel and carrot, all served with a light mint-flavoured gravy and a heaped spoon of butter-stewed peas with bacon and spanish onion.
Are we still talking about the cat smells?
We have three cats. One on the bike, and two moggies inside. I know which smells I'd rather have up my nose!

That could be it. It does have that toasty kind of smell (minus the cranberries and cream cheese :-) ). Its just that it never had that smell last season. I hope it is not going bad or something.Boxer wrote:Catalytic converter. Mine had a kind of whole wheat toast smell, with cranberries and cream cheese spread on it.

I don't recall eating any beans before the ride.....that would be a totally different smell altogether.....DJ Downunder wrote:Some people blame their dog for a bad smell..you blame your poor bike..shame on you..just admit it..it was you wasn't it..![]()

Ken,
It's obvious from thier locations that the above posters have no idea what a burned soft pretzel smells like. I on the other hand however understand your problem. To offer help I would need to know if the pretzel smells like it has mustard on it.

Cat - bird seed
My R had this problem last year. It turned out a mouse stored a bunch of bird seed down in the catalytic converter. I took the cat off and shook A LOT of seed out. I couldn't get all of it out which I figured was okay as the rest would burn off. After that I rigged up a wire mesh at the tip of the exhaust so no more mice could get in.

and look at page 69 for the exhaust plug it works a treat at keeping the mice out and can also be used when washing your pride an joy
the plug approx £5 UK not sure in $ there are two sizes to fit large or small orifices

Here's what I came up with to keep the mice out:
