It depends on the type of oil and the outside temp. If its real cold and your running a high weight oil it would be better to wait a few minutes. You would be surprised how long it can take for the oil to get around when its real cold.
It depends on how cold it is. Below 25 deg. F, I warm up the bike for a few minutes until the engine hits 1800 rpm with the high idle lever on. Above 30, I start the motor and go right away. Somewhere in between, it all depends on how the planets are lined up.
