Blues Removal?

No, not the music, just the color on these pipes of my '04 Rockster Series 80. Any suggestions/experience on removing the blues and getting that nice, polished look back? What product/method worked well for you?

Yes, I know it won't last, but I don't mind cleaning them every few months if it's not a 6 hour job.

Blueing is part of the charm on these bikes. Pretty chrome pipes are for the cruiser crowd.
Where do you live in SW FL? I am a transplant from the Naples area.

Steel wool..metal polish..and elbow grease..

But expect it back again after your next ride..

I have a friend who tried Blue Begone. It turned his pipes into a kind-of satin nickel color, not the original chrome. He said he wished he'd just left them blue! "Blue means you ride it"

Thanks for the responses. I suppose I could be happy that the blue somewhat matches the "sapphire blue" paint of the bike's frame, but I'd rather it match the gleaming chrome aftermarket rims that the previous owner installed! (They're gorgeous!)

Well, I figured the "color" would come back pretty quickly after cleaning. Though somewhere here I read of someone cleaning theirs with a special cleaner and when they did discolor again, the pipes took on a shiny, yet subdued-golden color instead (doesn't sound as bad as how my dirty-blue pipes look).

So, steel wool and metal polish you say? Hmmmm. Any specific brand of metal polish? I know I may not find what you're using DJ (since you're "down-under" and I'm practically on the other side of the planet), but who knows? The internet is making the world alot smaller and good stuff gets around....

I've had good results with a product called Blue Job, easy to use, and it shined the pipes back up. Since my pipes were turning brown, not blue or yellow, I finally went to the extreme and just had them coated with Jet Hot ceramic coating. They won't stay shiney, but they don't turn baby S*it brown either. Blue Job can be found at Cycle gadgets. http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/?cat=CLEAN

Thanks for the tip Owldaddy. Is it only available online or can I find it at a local auto parts store too?

After looking through a number of forums I've seen everything from Easy-Off Oven Cleaner to Tarn-X (the stuff that gets tarnish off of silverware and such).
