GPS Power Source
OK, answered my own question. The factory GPS power plug is indeed there. Pulled the tank and found it tie wrapped to a frame member roughly behind the horn. Used repair connector 83300413585 and wired up the GPS just like factory. Very neat. Small victory.

Actually if you turn the handlebars to the left and look behind the horn you should see a tie wrap around a down tube. I found my plug under this tie wrap on the backside of the tube. Don't really need to pull the tank to get at it but it would make it easier.

Plug
Finally got over to my bike storage today. I can see the cable tie you refer to, but not the GPS plug. Guess the tank will have to come off to get to it. It will have to wait, because I don't want to take it off now.
Thanks for the help.

danstl, I don't think you really have to pull the tank all the way off. Pull the two side covers and locate the one tank retaining bolt on the left side. Pull that bolt and you should be able to lift up the back of the tank and then scoot the tank towards the rear off the two locater bumpers at the front of the tank. That should give you enough room to look down at the downtube and locate the plug. Push the plug out from under the tiewrap, tighten up the now loose tiewrap, and thread the plug and its wire towards the front of the bike. Plug the repair connector in, after soldering in your GPS's power and ground lines, and you're good to go. Not really that difficult and a very nice factory quality installation.

Finally Got Around to it
....this past week. It was fairly simple to get to the plug. I've just got the GPS cable zip tied to the handle bars right now. I am trying to figure out whether I can modify my Gadget Guy GPS mount to work with the 2620. Since the XM cable comes out to the side, I'll have to modify the GPS enclosure to allow this and drill a hole in the right side of the enclosure for the audio output.
Thanks for the help locating the plug.

This power plug is a terminal on the factory wire harness designed to power the optional factory GPS. There are three wires involved. 12V, ground and some sort of speed related signal. I've heard it suggested that the speed related signal is intended for police bikes, but can't back that up with facts. The power plug is controlled by the CANBUS so it goes on and off with the key. I would feel comfortable using the 12V to power low power devices such as GPS, Sat radio or radar detector but not much more. If you wanted to power something such as aux lights or heated clothing you could use the GPS plug to trigger an appropriate relay. I have used this same plug on both my R1200R and my K1200GT with no problems. Of course, I'm just a shade tree mechanic with a only fundamental understanding of our bike's electrical workings, but it works for me.

Third Wire
The third wire was probably intended to provide dead-reconing movement information to the GPS if the signal is lost....going through a tunnel, parking garage, extended heavy tree cover. Don't know if it works or not, but that was most likely what is was for.
Any Photos?
Great find. My dealer didnt know if there was such a plug either as we still do not have the factory manual for the R12.
I took a quick look and saw a tiewrap on the right side down tube, but it appears that there is a cable going someplace out of the top of a round thing. Is that the connector?

12 volts wire?
So it is 12 volts coming from the wire? My Garmin Nuvi I takes 5 volts i think. Has anyone else had problem with this? I guess I could attach the bike wire with a female car adaptor and just plug the car adaptor which came with my GPS. Does that make sense?

I got it! Hardwired the GPS!
So I hardwired my GPS in today. Since it's a Nuvi and it only works on 5v, I had to use the car AC adaptor it came with. I hardwired a female AC cigarette plug right to the battery. In the pic one wire is the cigarette adaptor and one is for the trickle charger. Once I plug in the Garmin AC adaptor I'll just put some electrical tape around it all for the water.
What do you guys think? You think It'll work? I didn't have many options with the GPS being 5v.
