Replacing headlight with twin lights

Post by Tom1150r »

I am looking at trying to replace the single headlight with 2 bug type headlights, similar to those on a speed triple. Has anyone done this, or seen/know of anyone who has, and if so, what do they think? Does it work, and how does it look? Thanks.

Er why? :?
Would look OK with a small screen to match maybe?
I like the dual sport bikes with the twin headlights, but not sure on the R .
Not a fan of the Rockster look.

I think those would look great John. I love the look of the speed triple. It reminds me of the customized bikes in Mad Max and The Road Warrior.

Boxermania has done some extensive mods to his bike, one of which was the headlights.

I'm sure he'll ping in on this but here's a pic I snapped at one of the previous "Bash's":

Check into the Buell dual headlight. You might be able to adapt them.
There's also some "Bug Light" mfg's out there...do a search.

Thanks for your posts. Boxermania's RR looks great I think. I love the twin light look. Ric - the Buell lights do look good - I will look into it. Has anyone any opinions on the Pyramid Plastics Mantis nose fairing. I think it looks good, but havent seen it on an RR, might be worth a go!

BMW have done that - and it is called Rockster :D  :D  :D

On a serious note since you describe yourself as "Location: Northern Europe" - you probably have a Hein Gericke dealership in your country - they have twin lights similar to the ones on the picture in their catalog.

Boxermania's lights look terrific! I wonder how I could do that with the can't bus system on my R1200R?

Thanks ric. Very useful sites. That is the sort of thing I am looking for. I have seen a few other sites with similar products, but it is definitely worth shopping around. They have some good stuff on there. I have ordered a small Buell screen which I have an idea on how to fit to the original brackets, so we shall see. I think it will look good with the twin lamps. Something to keep me occupied during this miserable weather! If it all goes wrong I can always return it to the original state!

There's a whole forum dedicated to the idea of twin lights on r1150r's, it's...

Here!

Sorry, couldn't resist  . Seriously though, that looks pretty nice. I find with the R it's all too easy to ruin the look by changing the smallest detail, (basicly it came out of the factory 100% perfect IMO), but I'm liking that. I wonder what it'd look like without the screen.
