Oil Level

Post by celticus »

I just got my bike back from the dealer yesterday where it had it's 600 mile check up. The oil level prior to the check up showed a full site glass. I thought " Oh well they know what they are doing". Looking at the site glass now after the check up on a stone cold engine the level is smack dab in the middle of the glass.
Tell me where are your levels.

Stone cold --- smack dab middle. Sounds right.

About 3/4ths. When I got mine back from the 600-mile service I saw the slightest bit of oil in the sight glass after checking a couple of times. I added a little bit -- very sparingly -- to the level it's at now. Doesn't seem to have dropped much at all in 500 miles.

My service manager says that in the bullseye is perfectly ok. Max fill is to see a small bubble in the upper part of the glass. Under the bullseye takes about a 3/4 a cup of oil to bring up to bullseye top. Bike should be on the centerstand to check this.

After my initial 600 miles, I dont use any oil :D .

(unlike my HD breathren  )

Was that tacky or what :?:

Boys, boys. We shouldn't poke fun at our H-D brethren.

We should lend them a hand when we find them broken down on the side of the road.

Isn't that what the chase trailers are for?

Actually the trailers carry the oil supplies, and double as rescue vehicles in case of seizures or stuff falling off

Oh... Harleys apparently shrink in the rain or something too.

Well, I carry a tow strap. Maybe we should carry some oil for give-a-way assistance ? It will look funny though, carrying genuine HD oil to feed the HOGS. :!:

Do the R1200R have a warning ligt for the oil level like other new BMW`s. A symbol is coming up in the display or something?

The warning light is for oil pressure not oil level.
