Some more texas in October

Post by RBrider »

Hello

I've been lurking around this site since I bought my Rockster last year.

Recently took a trip accross the SE US, from Melbourne FL to Alpine Texas. thought I'd share it with you guys.

It's also posted on another 'net site, that hosted the get together in Alpine. The attraction of Alpine Texas is the Big Bend National Park.

I left home on Oct 22 '06, returned home on the 31th.
4100 miles in 10 days.

My goal when laying out my route was to avoid interstates, cities & urban sprawl.

I was pretty sucessfull on all counts.

Here's a link to some photos I took along the way.

I'll narrate them now, so you'll know what you're looking at.

Two photos of an old fashion fish camp on the La- Texas line. They leave a phone # to call if you want a room. They tell you what room is open(unlocked) & they come by in the morning to collect. Try that in the big city.

Road side marker explaining the EL Camino Real. Translated means the Royal Road. Runs from Brunswick Ga on to El Paso Texas & into Mexico. Authorized by the King of Spain in 1690. Includes much of US 84, as well as La 6 & Texas 21.

Couple pics from motel parking lot in Junction Texas, where I met up with three other riders for the ride into Alpine.

Volcanic rock in Big Bend national Pk.

Brother Bill & ST1300 from Mercedes Texas

Parking lot in Alpine Texas

Some likely suspects caught on film on banks of the Rio Grande. L to R, Bones, Frenchie, Darth Vader, Jamais, Moose, SoCalRob and Scratch.

Couple shots of park by the Rio Grande.

Rock formation & parking lot at lunch stop in B/B Nat Pk.

One pic of Texas 21 eastbound in east Texas.

Two pics of Texas 21 crossing the Sabine river.

One pic of Downtown Natchiotches, Louisianna.

Two of the Cane River running along side Main St in Natchiotches.

One pic of cotton ready for shipment in Mississippi cotton field on US 84, The EL Camino Real (The Royal Rd)

The Rockster at home in Florida.

Pic of Dunlop 220's, 4200 on rear, 7000 on front, FWIW.

Don't know how this got out of sync, L to R in B/B Nat Pk, SoCalRob, Dave(Harley guy from Ontario Canada)& Moose.

Click on slideshow.

Thanks for the slide show RB. Looks like you travelled through some scenic areas.

Time to replace that rear tire....it's looking pretty square!

Looks like you enjoyed yourself. I appreciate the pictures.

Can anyone explain this one? Cotton storage?

I saw these too while traveling in the South recently.

The cotton is harvested into bales, and then bound up into large truck load sized bales for shipping.

Or, so I was told.

Just saw the same thing in Georgia cotton fields as well.
