Fall Colors in the East

Post by GypsyRR »

Fortunately for me, I had some work last week out east and was able to take a couple of extra days and drive through the mountains and see the fall color change beginning. I may have been a few days early in some areas but other areas sure seemed like they were peak color change times to me.

I didn't have a plan or path in mind so I just got on the road and headed toward the mountains. Because of that, I'm not even sure where I was half the time. I took hundreds of pictures, but am not happy with their quality for web posting once they pass through Photobucket.com. But, nevertheless, here are a few.

I left early one morning while the mountains were still draped in fog. It gave the drive sort of an ominous feeling and made the turns/twists on the roads more of a challenge to navigate. The roads through the mountains were incredible and now I know why all you guys out east get together and ride so often!! I can't imagine having terrain like that so close that you could take some rides like these every weekend.

Once the trees parted, I could see some unbelievable views which made me want to hang around the area until the fog lifted.

I've never lived in an area known for it's fall foliage display so this was a real treat for me. It was hard NOT to take pictures of everything I saw. And it is equally hard not to post all 400 pictures. But here are a few more of my wanderings and roaming around the mountains out east:

After my short side trip to the mountains out east, I am looking forward to the '07 Bash and hoping the roads and sights near there are as great as the ones I saw on this trip. There is still a few weeks of color change left in other parts of the country. I think I'll try to take another fall foliage trip in the next few weeks and see the differences in the colors, terrain, and roads. Now, if I can just get to travel on someone else's expense again!!!

BTW, if I inadvertently took a picture of your house, your road, your land, your church, or your barn and didn't give you credit, I'm sorry. I just had no idea where I was. On the other hand, if you could tell me where I was, I'd appreciate it. I might like to return some day. Thanks.

great pictures gypsy,

if the transfer made those photos look bad, the originals must be stunning.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

WOW, great pictures Gypsy !! I've got to stop looking at ride reports... I am really, really jonesin' to take a long trip on the R to all these beautiful places. I spent time in Arkansas and went to North Carolina in the winter last year and really want to make a trip on the bike to see such color. Your photos remind me of those places but mine were without those great fall colors. Beautiful, thanks for sharing the photos.

This is my favorite. I can just imagine leaning around that curve, on such a beautiful fall day, nothing else to worry about but enjoying the ride.

Excellent photography! But you are teasing me with the locations. The architecture tells me it is North of Virginia. Perhaps Pennsylvania? Ohio?

Beautiful pictures - you have a good eye!

I agree with DJ, this one belongs in a magazine or postcard or something:

I'd like to have that view directly in front of my K1200S.

Mac had a Mac Attack. The OSX stack put the saved data back when he opened my Mac. It wasn't a hack, just a bad Mac, so Yong, cut us some slack. I just want my username back.
