Jesse Bags

Post by mvscorpio »

Hi all, wondering if anyone has Jesse Bags on a 2002+ R bike. I am curious to see photos from different angles, and your comments on the installation and on the bags in general.

Thank you!

Ok - No one seems to be answering this one. I also looked at the Jesse luggage for the R. Good points were the robustness, the huge capacity, the way they sit close to the bike (cut-out for exhaust) and the reasonable looks thanks to the tapered panel (not too box-like).

Bad points were cost, but even that was pretty reasonable against other non-BMW options. I also had a close look at an R fitted out with the bags. Pretty shmick, but cornering clearance was likely to be an issue for me. They do hang very low.

I have also read that they can result in your foot getting caught underneath, but think that's more an off--road 'paddling' problem that shouldn't worry a road bike too much.

I like them, and would have considered them if mine didn't come with the stock bags. Given the choice if you have no bags now, I think they are a better option for the R than Touratech (too high, wide and boxy), or Hepco and becker (Too high, wide and boxy). I do not like the H&B Gobi plastic bags as they lose too much space with the double wall water container that's built in.

Go with the Jesse.

Good feedback, thanks. I currently have the BMW system cases, considering the Jesse Bags as replacement.

To echo MIXR's concern about clearance. I've seen pictures over on ADVrider of the GS guys dragging Jesse bags in corners. And that's with a GS with it's higher ground clearance. If you're looking for sheer capacity with no thought to looks, there's also Touratech and Hepco Backer to consider. There's also the Caribou system using Palican cases, but I don't know if he makes a set for the RR. He does for the GS, so it might be the same for the RR.

I found the cornering clearance completely unacceptable with Jesse bags until I put a GS rear suspension on it. Alternatively you could re-engineer the Jesse mounts to raise the bags about 2-3 inches. The Jesse mounts are a bit cheesy anyway and re-engineering them is not a bad thing (done properly).
