Sheepskin for R1150R long rides?

Whenever I ride over 200 miles in a day, the stock seat starts becoming uncomfortable. Short of getting a better aftermarket seat, like a Sargeant, I read in the MOA mag about Alaska Leathers sheepskin covers as a cure. Would appreciate hearing about anyone's experience with sheepskin covers - do they really make a big difference on the "sore butt" problem on long rides?

YES! Even with the stock seat. Mine is size XL because I have an XL butt.

I have a Sargent seat, and I cannot ride more than a hundred miles without squirming unless I have my butt pad. Keep in mind that it will add little height to your seat. If you can barely touch the ground now, it will be more difficult with the butt pad. One of the reasons is that the pad also covers the side of the seat, therefore spreading your legs more. The medium pad in only 16" wide. This, or the large, may be a better choice.
The lady at Alaskan Leathers is very helpful. Give her a call, I'm sure she's heard everything.

It would help a bit, but it would not make an LD seat out of the stocker. I use a sheepskin on a Sargent seat after trying to be happy with the sheepskin on the stocker. The stocker is just plain shaped wrong - for me at least.

My long term plan is to buy a Russell Day-long.

Alright, I just ordered an Alaska Leather and will get a chance to try it out on a stretch of 400 mile days coming up in a few weeks.

I looked into a custom seat for my '97 R850R and the down time (and price) just aren't going to work for me. So, fingers crossed on the sheepskin... I'll post a f/u after the trip.

I have an Alaskan Butt Pad on my stock tall 'R' seat. It helps quite a bit but I have ordered a Rick Mayer seat as well.

I had the same problem and ordered a medium butt pad. I had the opportunity to test it out this past weekend on a 700 mile journey. I can't believe the difference it made. The first day I spent 14+ hours in the saddle. I didn't start getting uncomfortable until 11 or so hours into the trip. As far as I am concerned, it was money well spent.

I have an Alaska Leather butt pad with the tall seat. It makes a huge difference for me. The seat is much more comfortable and the height is better for me.

Also, the sheepskin is really good in humid weather. It keeps your butt and your "boys" from getting all sweaty and sticking to a vinyl seat.

I bought a butt pad from Alaska leather.com. It works great. I bought one of their 'seconds' at a substantial savings. I don't know why it's considered a 'second' because I can't find anything wrong.

I'm 5' 9" 220 lbs. and have a stock seat and an Alaskan Leathers Butt pad. The pad helps in hot weather. I did notice that the stock seat has just gotten comfortable right after 13K miles. It took that long to break in I guess or my fanny did!

Thanks for the feedback. I ordered one today and think I'll like the difference on longer trips.

Now I'm thinking of getting some Aeroflow tank wings to augment my OEM touring screen. Then I'll really be ready for the next ride to the Colorado rockies!

I did the MOA trip the long way, about 3K and used an Alaska buttpad over an Airhawk seat cushion. No complaints. Didn't need my Anti-Monkey Butt powder at all.
