Family Day on the Trace

Post by Valueman »

Since my oldest daughter took a ride on the 1150R on her 7th birthday a few weeks ago she has become a real “motorcycle momma.” She refers to the new FJR as “Daddy’s Motorcycle,” but the BMW is “Our Motorcycle.” I took of the system cased and installed the JC Whitney $59 topcase. The backrest makes her feel much more comfortable on the bike.

In a previous ride report I told you that I live just a couple of miles from the north end of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is 8 miles from our house down to the famous Hwy 96 bridge. In the evenings it has become commonplace for my daughter to ask if we can ride down to the bridge.

I never thought I would get comfortable riding with one of my kids on the back, but the Trace is perfect. It’s a great road with a low speed limit (heavily enforced) and lots of great scenery.

Today we went about twenty miles on down the Trace and had a family picnic at Garrison Creek. This is a great natural playground. There are several grills and picnic tables. There is also a great creek to play in. Garrison Creek is trailhead for the horse trails. People with horse trailers are constantly in and out.

We left home about 10:00 am. Oldest daughter and I on the 1150R, wife and younger daughter followed in the van.

We had a great day grilling hamburgers and hot dogs (which we had to share with new friends my very outgoing daughter made at the creek.) throwing rocks, petting horses, etc. Nana and Papaw even stopped in. After five hours of great family fun we packed up and headed home. What an awesome day!!

Now that she has demonstrated she really wants to ride we have ordered a new full face helmet (pink, of course) and some riding gloves. When the helmet arrives I am going to install Autocom speakers so we can talk as we ride.

Excellent! Great pics.

Having a young riding buddie is fantastic.

Always get a good sales pitch for a ride :)

Nice post. And I have to say this - she must look like her mother! Too cute to look like you! She sure looks like she enjoys it!
