I just posted on another thread a reason not to wash the bike. Any day good enough to wash, is good enough to ride.
However, when I finally do it, I use a household degreaser on the engine, car wash on the metal and fiberglass and a product called Back to Black for items like the luggage and luggage mounts.
I don't spend more than about 15 minutes on it though.

*When* I wash my bike, I use typical car wash suds, whatever I have in the garage. Every once-in-a-while I'll wax the bike with whatever decent car wax I have in the garage. As for the black parts I bought some stuff made by the "Mother's" brand, called "Back to Black". Basically it's made for those black 'plastic' car parts that get oxidized and faded looking. I've used it on my system cases, case mounts, mirror stalks, and whatever black controls I feel like. Works good.
The only part I hate is the attention the wheels need, and getting inbetween the spokes.

Most people don't do what's right, they do what's most convenient and then repent

ICE ICE BABY
I wash with cherry power. No degreaser. Just on the center stand and wash away to my arms hurt. If the tar wont come off by this method, I use Goo Gone. (2 ml at most). Unlike some other folks here on this forum, I usually wax my bike after I wash it. (Marine Corps heritage, and my fathers pride..Never seen his car dirty, not once). I use the new stuff on the market called Turtle Wax ICE.
Now having being a complete idiot one day.....I actually used some Eagle One Wheel cleaner...and as you can guess it, all my black parts turned white and black speckled.....Until.....I used ICE. I use ICE everywhere, except the tires.....I mean everywhere, I was my rims, black parts....speedometer...everything except the tires. This is the best stuff in the world.
Just a note..Before I started putting on ICE...I waxed her everytime with Meguires (sp) GOLD Class.
The best thing about ICE....I have barely used any at all...7 wash and waxes later, I have more than enough to last me the rest of the year.
IT DOES NOT LEAVE ANY RESIDUE ANYWHERE!!
By the kit at Advanced Auto Parts...13.99..wax, cloth, applicator. Everywhere else in my neck of the woods is 16.99, even Wal-Mart.

Honda's Spray Cleaner & Polish. I get it at a Honda motorcycle dealer. Works very well on all surfaces painted or chromed.
Nobody is sure perfect, but she practiced tirelessly !
