Where do you keep your registration/insurance card

Post by hotzuk »

Hey gang,

Real simple question. Do you keep your registration/insurance information somewhere on your bike? Tank bag? or on your own self?

I think I am starting to lean toward keeping the information on me in the event I somehow get seperated from my bike. Would love to hear your thoughts/opinions?

I never ride without my riding jacket, so that is where I keep mine.

Wallet. If I'm on a long ride, then the wallet goes in the tankbag.

Ortleib waterproof neck bag on long trips.

Short rides around town and day rides, I just keep it in the same bag in my tankbag. Wallet usually carries the license. I have been known to leave the license in the neck bag and take off in the truck without it. YIKES! This happened when I flew out to Utah last month. Got to the airport with no photo ID. They flagged me for the full body cavity search and the little lady doing it was very gentle!

At home! We don't have to carry any documents in the UK.

Reg. stays in bike. Ins. Cards: I have duplicates - so one is in under the seat and one is in a card case that is always with me. That way I'm never without ins. cards whatever vehicle/motorcycle I'm in/on.

No reason why I do not keep it with my vehicles (perhaps the fear of getting separated from machine?). I keep all my registration and insurance info with my PDA in its case, and don't leave home without it.
Traffic signals timed for 35mph, are also timed for 70mph.

Under seat. It is secure and relatively water proof.

Tank bag? might get stolen

Jacket? I have several - might forget it

Wallet? already too fat, but not with money

Everything in the wallet - license (of course), registration and insurance cards for both cars and the bike. Wife has dupes for the cars in her wallet. We keep all the titles in the bank SD box.

I saw a thing on the news recently where some security guy recommended you keep all your paperwork on you and not in the car. You might become vulnerable to things like:

1) Car/bike gets broken into while you're out somewhere. Bad guy gets your address from your paperwork. Drives (his car) to your house, breaks in, cleans you out before you even leave the mall. Even easier if you leave your garage clicker in the car (we don't).

2) Similar sceanrio where the parking lot attendants do the same number on you while you're parked in a public, attended garage.

3) ID theft or other types of fraud depending on what other info they can get on you (do you leave your wallet/purse in the car - ever?), receipts, CC numbers, a checkbook, your job ID badge, etc...

Even if you live in a 'nice' area like we do, you sometimes have to drive/ride to places where the bad guys are.

I have only one riding jacket that I wear all the time, for me that works. Leaving it in the bike....I see a problem with that if the bike is stolen, for the same reason I don't leave any paperwork in my car, its all in my wallet, except for the bike.

I used to keep it (reg and ins. card)in the secret compartment that the Sargent seat has underneath.

As for now, I haven't put my updated ones on the bike yet!

I remember my liscense number by heart so I suppose I could leave it at home....
