The ADVRider guys have all that down. That thread has a great video on it. Here's the link to their smoking ride report. Don't forget your SATCOM.

'Course, you could always take a couple of extra days and ride there.
Seems the Roadsterista would have many potential stopping over and resting spots along the way. I think we could hand you off and provide some enroute buddy time.
Brian is going to Newfoundland this year...get him to find the rental spot for you...

I'm going to Nova Scotia in mid-July. Didn't think I'd have enough time to really do Newfoundland too. Talked with a guy today who advised taking the ferry to Newfoundland and riding up to the "Viking Village" (?).
Don't have a clue about renting bikes. I'll keep my ears and eyes open though.
Mike's right about you riding there, you could work in the Hungry Mother Rain Ride on your way to or from!!!

Re: Newfoundland?
Going to Nerwfie Land? My whole damn family is from there. A little town called Dildo, its in Trinity Bay in the Avalon Regoin. Very nice, but it does rain more times then not. Make sure you check out Gross Morne National Park, breathtaking. I know what you mean about the Mac thing, damn Windows Media Player is not available for the new Intel Mac, so the nice video's that often get posted here I can't yet watch.Kristi wrote:Does anybody know of a place to rent bikes and some good routes to take in Newfoundland. You riding up yourself or going with a touring company?? Sean Reid runs a tour out of a nearby town http://www.motorcycletours.com/home.htm Real nice guy. I almost bought an old F650 from him when I first looked into getting a bike. The site is worth perusing just for the pics but those with dial up be warned.DSKYZD wrote:I'm going to Nova Scotia in mid-July. Didn't think I'd have enough time to really do Newfoundland too. Kristi, I think he works mostly in Nova Scotia but he might be able to hook you up with a rental around here and you could ride up from here through NH and ME.

I already have my ticket to flly into St. John and I am spending 8 days in Newfoundland the first week in August - no particular place - just everywhere I can go in that amount of time. I'm still looking for a place to rent a bike at least for part of my stay there. No luck yet. Maybe when I get there something will open up for me.I think he works mostly in Nova Scotia but he might be able to hook you up with a rental around here and you could ride up from here through NH and ME.

I don't know if their 800 number works from the US so there is the local number..
Kristi, this store does horses and motorcycles, go figure. I went to their site and didn't see any rental info for bikes, but i Cycle Canada Magazine thewir add says that the rent bikes as well. I would advise you call them tomorrow.... Thier located in St. Johns, NF.

Thank you Dwayne. I will call them tomorrow. If I find good infomation about bike rentals, I'll post the info for anyone who might be interested.
This is going to be an interesting trip to say the least, but the prospect of being able to ride a bike at least a couple of days while there puts everything into a new dimension.............and of course, would alter my packing!!!! Thanks again.

If that doesn't work out, I have my uncle looking for bike rental places as well...he lives in Old Shop, which is an hour out of St. Johns on the TransCanada Highway. Oh, when my wife and I were back home a couple of years ago we had lunch at a really nice little cafe in Dildo. I'll send you a map of how to get there if you want, but basically once on the TransCanada you just get off at the exit for Trinity Bay (Dildo, Whitbourne...about 12Km's down the road), you can't miss it; there's an Irving gas station just after the exit, and it's not a divided highway once you get to the Trinity Bay turnoff. Just take that exit into South Dildo, then onto Dildo...it's about a 20 minute ride off of the highway, and the road is paved. If you stop in Dildo, mention that you know Dwayne Hillier from the Mainland, they'll know who I am. Oh, if you do stop for a bite on the highway, that Irving station has okay food, and a kilometer down the road...if that, there's another little restaurant called Monty's. Not bad food either. Now the town of Dildo, where my family is from, is very, very old school Newfoundland. People don't lock their doors, and everyone knows everyone. Trust me, if you have never been to Newfoundland this phrase will ring true for you:Kristi wrote:Thank you Dwayne. I will call them tomorrow. "There are no strangers in Newfoundland, just friends that you have yet to meet".
Trust me. Talk to some of the older folk and they'll have you over for dinner, and you won't be leaving until you get Screehed in. Hehehe, that's a whole other topic: The Screech in.

The place you thought might rent bikes does not rent bikes. So if your Uncle comes up with something please let me know. I'll be checking as I travel around up there too. Maybe I'll happen to come upon something. I tend to stay away from the tourist spots so I'm sure I'll meet some locals very quickly. I know about Screech already.
