Stretching your legs out...Is this Ok?

Post by AlbertJohnson »

Is it ok to lay your legs on top of the heads on your r1150r while long touring? No harm to any part of the bike?

If you want to ride in the birthing position why not get a Harley??

No damage will come of the bike but you just might get a little bit too warm!

Not okay. Bad.

You'll have to turn in your MSF card and go get a new one after re-training.

Be careful if you have Darien or other similar material pants. If you touch the header area at all you will have a hole melted in them.

I've found it hard to keep my legs propped up like that. They tend to slide off the end of the jugs, but not before I've had time to stretch a little. So they do work somewhat as a leg rest.

I do it for a few seconds..maybe even minutes every now and then to streach my legs.

Only when no ones looking....I can't see myself riding too long with them there.

It sometimes seems that most riders in the US ride along with their feet in the air..........all the weight is on their arse............it must pummel ones lower back.

Though I must confess...........I did sometimes put my feet up years ago on my old air GS but that had engine bars so there was no danger of nurning anything.......but I was younger then!

I do it all the time.

With feet up on the jugs you can give the cruiser crowd the Cool Boy Low Wave.

With feet on the pegs you have to give the high wave or thumbs up.

Not tried this on the move but seeing this thread went and sat on the bike and it does feel comfortable. Aren't those jugs were too hot though and don't your boot soles melt?!Might try it occasionally to stretch the legs a little.

I've tried this out, not too comfy for me , but sure does help to stretch.
Never had my legs up there long enough to feel the heat come through my boot's or jean's.
I wonder if that's how the cruisers feel?
Kind of a strange position to ride IMO.

I melted by boot soles doing this - a good way to retread them actually if they're worn. :) For me, its also a "thighmaster" keeping my legs up there, and it will be uncomfortably hot on your calves.

legs

Post by Croc »

FWIW, I have just got back from a 3000 mile round trip of Europe during which time I did some quite long stints - including 600 miles on the last day - and found no need to rest my legs on the pots. There were many times when I let them hang but I found the best relief was to bend forward and rest my helmet on the tank bag and stretch my legs out back. As I only had on Hood jeans (kevlar lined) and not leathers I was reluctant to rest on the pots.

Anyway, a great trip which took in the German and Austrian Alps and the Nurburgring race track (one lap clocked on the beakster - 13 miles! so I can now wear the T-shirt!)

Croc-You lucky limey you!
I lived in Austria back when I was 20 and 21, but didn't have a bike then. Always wanted to go back and tour the Alps around western Austria.

If I can catch a plane to London, can I use your bike to make that same tour? :P

I do it occasionally, for short stretches. I consider it "Boxer Yoga." While my legs are out there, I lean forward and get a little stretch in my back, too. I always have my boots on so it's the leather that rests against the jugs, so haven't melted anything yet. It's more for stretching, for me, rather than comfort so I don't have my legs sticking out there that long.

As for those Elf pegs, at $300 to $350 a pair, I think I'll continue with "Boxer Yoga" and save the $$ to buy a leather Laz-y-Boy recliner.... about the same price

Basically, you have to upload your digital photos to some other site, such as a hosted photography site. I use http://www.smugmug.com, where I upload all the photos that I want others to be able to see from the comfort of their own computer. Once you have the photos uploaded to another site, you link to that image when you post on this site. That is, each photo that you have posted on, say, smugmug, has its own URL. You have to "grab" that URL and put it between HTML tags when you post your reply here. Hope this isn't being too basic. You will note that in the reply window on this site, there is a button above the text area labeled "Img." This is the opening HTML "tag" and, once you click it, it will change to the closing "tag" (signified with an asterisk). Put the URL of the image inbetween these tags and it will magically appear in your reply message on this board !

Here is a better explanation: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=217
