More power... cheaply?

Has anyone bought and fitted one of these;

Is it likely to work?

The O2 sensor is only used by the CPU when the throttle is not fully opened (less than perhaps 20%) and when the RPMs are below a maximum value. At wide open throttle and high RPM, the bike operates in open loop according to pre-set injection maps. Therefore, messing with the O2 sensor data would only work at part-throttle. This might help with surging, but it will not give more power.
The open-loop mode is the reason why an injected engine can still run lean (for instance with a freer-flowing exhaust).

Surging is a problem on my bike. At about 3k rpm when holding a constant speed, the bike surges or rocks back and forth on the throttle. I have tried different spark plugs, carb balance etc.
For the sake of a few euros, this eBay item may be worth a try just to see if it would elliminate the surge?

Carlos,
For your surging, try using Chevron supreme gas. Something to do with the tekron in it, it helped my bike to the point of first gear light to light and parking lot slow speeds, the surge is gone for practical purposes.

IMHO this bike has more than adequate HP. i took off the exhaust can and put a tip on the end of the converter - see "can is off" thread - i got better throttle response for my R which eased the "surge", smoother idle and the open view of the rear wheel is great.
if you don't like it, put the can back on and try something else. but, whatever you do, enjoy the ride!

This might sound stupid, but what is "surging" ???

Kazushi....Surging is when you are at a constant speed..usually flat ground and about 3,500 rpm...try and hold it at a constant a speed as you can..you will feel the bike speed up and slow down all by itself..it can be very obvious and very anoying...some bike it's hardly noticeable at all.

It's the fuel injection trying to lean off the mixture to get the best emissions and then have to richin it up..and then try and lean off again.

Well that's my understanding of how it works.

I had bad surging when my bike was new (02) but after a good tune up it got less...I also removed the CCP and this also helped a little...and when I removed the can it's almost gone completly..it's very faint now..I'm happy.

I must be one of the lucky ones, I've never noticed this on my R which probably means that it happens unnoticeably...

My "04" never surged that i could tell untill the 12k service. After that i noticed it all the time, like sitr1150r said i started using premium gas(93oct instead of 89oct) and i hardly notice it now.

I thought the manual called for premium gas. I've been using 91+ and have never noticed any surging.

I've posted this before, so excuse me for repeating. The Techlusion R259 fuel injection management kit is easy to install and works like a charm. It get's rid of the surging and you can program the chip set for various rpm ranges so that you get maximum acceleration at low power band, mid power band and high power band. This does not seem to affect your fuel consumption . . . at least on my bike (I still get 140-160 miles before reserve).
