Whew! I left from Blacksburg to Richmond last night, and left Richmond for Hampton Roads in Virginia this morning so I could cut northward through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a 16 mile long stretch of three bridge spans and two tunnels that traverse the mouth of the Bay. I rode through the length of the Delmarva Peninsula through the Virginia Eastern Shore, Maryland, Delaware, and 2/3rds of New Jersey to get to my usual business destination near New York. A smidge over 700 miles in 27 hours. Not quite as long as my single day record of 730 miles from Blacksburg to Orlando, but it's been a great couple of days with relatively warm weather for this time of year.
I'm working at a client site in Summit, NJ during the week and am planning to return to Virginia on Saturday. This is the way to travel for business!

camped in your area a few years ago - Coulter Lake Park (?) Just about 20 miles south of Blacksburg. Went to a grad. at VT in May. Rather chilly as I remember. From there to Charleston - great place that. Then home to NJ (randolph - about 20 miles from Sumit).
I envy your locale. VA has been my destination of choice for several years now and in '05 had the greatest time riding the SLD & BRP top to bottom twice - once on an HD Electra Glide and once on my Rockster. Liked the 2nd time better ( although I got a ticket in NC - bummer).
I usually head out by noon and hit Front Royal the first night. Then west into WV, then south and do a big circle.
I got a book TOURING THE APPILACIANS (?) FROM Whitehorse Press and have taken severa of the "loops" and have never been disappointed in either the riding or the eating.
Like I said, I envy you your locale.
Save riding,

js - the lake you speak of is Claytor Lake. It was created when the local power company dammed up the New River. I've gone jetskiing on it on occasion.
Yeah, I love Virginia. It has such a wide variety of land and people. It is Northern and Southern in culture, metropolitan and rural.
BTW, I'm in Summit as I type by the way. I spend about a third of my time each year here and in New York City.
Phil - the ride I wrote of was back in November! But thanks for the sentiments nonetheless! It's getting to the point I need to head down to Atlanta BTW, so I'll give you a shout next time I'm suiting up to ride there!
