Piaa lights

Anyone have Piaa lights on their RR? If so, can you post a picture? I talked to my dealer today and he suggested Piaa over Motolights because they are brighter. I'm also thinking about some additional brake lighting. I looked at the "hyper" light that blinks first then is steady on, as well as making the signals running lights. After looking at the "hyper" brake light I went home with a migraine from the brightness of it. I suppose I'll get sued for blinding someone with that thing. But at least they'll see me.

I had the piaas and the brake lights. I recommend both. I think in the techtips page (link is at top) there is info on the hyperlights at the bottom. I havent looked in a while, there may many options for mounting the piaas - I'm sure someone will chime in. Also, you can try doing a search (text link is above) on "piaa."

I think the easiest thing to do is tape the piaas to the oil cooler covers, underneath. There is a great double stick tape by 3m that is strong enough. Its called VHB. Go here: http://www.mcmaster.com/ and search on VHB. On page 3253 there are VHB squares for purchase about halfway down. I dont know if you can get it locally, but its worth the effort. This is the type of double stick tape they apply to signs and actually have used it in replacement for rivits on the side of 18-wheeler trailer siding! I have a big roll of it at work, its great. I think the grey-colored stuff is better than the white. BTW, you could just, of course, drill some holes and use screws!

Kristi, I also use the PIAA's (1100X's) and the LED blinking brake lights. My PIAA's are mounted on the Wunderlich engine protection bars which have built-in mounting points for aux lights:

One tip on the PIAA's: since the chrome/plastic housing is not waterproof the connector pins on the bulbs are prone to getting corroded (and breaking). I was replacing bulbs every few months at one point. A couple of the guys on this board suggested using "di-electric" grease on the connectors. No problems since. You can get a tube of that stuff in auto parts stores, go to the aisle with all the electrical crap. Goop some on the pins and also on the female conector in the ceramic housing. It'll protect the metal pretty well. BTW I think you're supposed to wear gloves when you handle the bulbs. Something about the residue from your hands heating up and frying the bulb. (?)

Think about what you are trying to achieve. PIAA and Motolights both have many satisfied users. I use Motolights, so that is my bias.

In my case, I wanted to see better AND to be seen better (enhanced conspicuity). I have Motolights with 50W yellow bulbs. People can really see me coming, and it also fills in where the headlight does not shine as brightly. In addition, I have a 90/100 watt headlight bulb wired with a relay. This made a huge difference over stock lighting.

For the rear, I have an LED license plate frame wired into the brake light circuit. I think it helps a little, but not a lot. I still watch the mirrors when I am stopped. I have ABS and have had no problems. Some dealers will tell you that there are problems if you have ABS and add anything to the brake light circuit.

Here's some pics where I mounted mine. I just made a very simple u-shaped bracket oot of flat stock and mounted them to the brackets for the touring windscreen, which I believe are the same brackets for the small screen. The close-up picture is kind of fuzzy, but hopefully you can make it out. My PIAAS are the 910's, which I don't think they make any more. But if they're like any other PIAAs, they are heavy (read well built) and I wouldn't consider mounting them w/ tape. Hit enough bumps and you are really putting some stress on the mounting points.
