Trouble running below 4k RPM

Anyone else having trouble with their bike not wanting to run below 4k RPM. Everytime I end up out in the twisty roads, my bike never seems to go below 4k RPM, and usually just feels right at around 5k.

On another note, it seems like the air temps around 60 degrees F seems to make the bike run brilliantly. It just feels like more power, less vibration, etc.

Jeff,

I'm thinking you're pulling my leg a bit with that 5K in the curvy stuff....

But my R runs better in cooler weather for sure. Richer mix from the air temp sensor, I'm sure...

No leg pulling about the 5k in the curves. It just depends on what gear you are in. 3rd and 4th are my favorites on the R for curvy back roads. 4-6k RPM is truly the sweet spot.

There is much better engine braking at the higher Rpm, and it makes it possible to only use the brakes 3 times in a 30 mile run through the curves. Just roll on and off of the throttle.

I see what you mean. My R loves to stay above 3.5krpm. It purrs like a cat on cooler days. I guess that's the nature of the beast. :)

Every German vehicle I have ever owned -- including 3 VW's, a Porsche 911, an Audi A6, and the R1150R -- has run better in cold weather, without exception.

What makes it extremely sweet is taht you are right in the middle of the peak torque band.

Cool air makes for denser mixture and slightly more power, any vehicle will feel like it has an extra gear......and then the same applies for the rider, the ride is soooooo nice. :roll: :roll:

As a long time Mercedes and BMW cage driver I must agree. The cars seem to come into their own in the cooler weather. Same's true with my RR.
