cgguy09,
You are not alone in having this pump sock pickup alignment problem after a fuel filter change. You hopefully ARE alone in that this time the BMW dealer made the mistake! We can all thank BMW engineers for not only foolishly making the perfectly symmetrical bolt pattern, but also for NOT providing any stamped in, painted on or permanent sticker alignment marks.
If anyone else removes the fuel pump plate assembly without first marking the correct orientation before removing it, you can later place the pump plate a few inches outside its fuel tank opening, with the plastic filter sock's flat lower edge parallel to the bottom surface of the fuel tank. Then you can marker mark which stud area goes to which pump plate bolt hole.
Also very important is that you should be very careful that the fuel vapor and cap area water drain internal vent lines are not mixed up, If/When they are removed. The last reminder for fuel pump plate R&R is that NOTHING requires any force to install it. I remember some 10 years ago having to insert it away from correct alignment and then turning it to correct alignment, without any resistance from unseen colliding parts.
Well, I just spoke with the BMW Dealership. They said take it to the local Beemer place & if it is messed up, they'll fix it. (I honestly should have done that in the first place, but a quick fix and an excuse to do maintenance was just too appealing.)
But, you're right about all those points, in particular the symmetrical bolt pattern. That would have seemed to be an zero cost fix.
But, this also shows that, so long as your have the time and wherewithal, you should just do your own maintenance.
Hopefully this saga ends this weekend when I take the bike in.
Alright! Problem Solved. Took it to BMW Seattle. They had it fixed in a day & Gateway BMW paid for it, a full tank of gas, an a loaner! A great little F800R. I have to admit, I really did like that bike.
But I'm glad I got my Rockster back! Thanks for all the input. Who would have thought that would have been the problem!

F800 bikes are capable do-all options; I really like the overall package. Wish the F800R had the S/ST/GT's belt drive.
Glad all worked out for you and Rockster.
Just checked out Sound Rider's 2017 cafe to cafe... thought about it last year but didn't ahve the free time, hoping this season will be different. Would be cool to get some R1150R folks signed up, plus some of the PNW F800 riders (quite a few of them in our region).
