Instrument Lights

Post by Hottech »

2004 R1150R Speedometer & Tach lights are not working but all the warning lights still light up. Checked fuse #1 and it looks fine. Do not think it is the bulbs since both are out. Any suggestions? :-k

Check if the bulbs have blown. I have always found that is the usual cause of a non functioning light source. May be something else but start with the obvious. :doubt:

My first guess, would be broken wire(s) around the steering head, the wiring harness is secured too tightly in this area and broken wires are common .

I have an '04 rockster (over 200K miles) and I have seen bulbs fail on both instruments only hours apart. Since they run all the time day or night they do fail. You can buy the bulbs at any auto parts store like auto zone.

Don't assume the fuse is good, because it looks good, remove it and check it with a multimeter and see if it has continuity .

Get into the indicators and check for 12 VDC at the contacts for the bulbs, proceed from there, if you have voltage, replace the bulbs, no voltage, check for broken wires .

If you get replacement bulbs from an auto parts store, post the number for them .
