Gear Box Oil Grade for Hot Weather

My gear changes got even noisier than usual during the recent heat wave of 30°C plus. I use Comma 75/90 IIRC which is not too bad in cool weather. Are there any suitable, heavier, wide range semi synth types in the US/UK?

Seems like only synthetic is available at that grade. Found Gulf Syngear 75w-140 synthetic gear oil and driveline lubricant in the UK.
Any comments on that grade /type of oil?

I have always used 75w90 but know some that use 75w140.
I live in the Mojave desert and yesterday near here it was 114F* so its hot! never had any issues with the 75w90m and because of a trip coming up (5000 miles) I just changed the oil in the engine. 196,000 miles went in the log.

Thanks.I suppose what I want to know is this.
If I have a clonky gear shift ,going down the gears, will a heavier synthetic grade help to quieten it.
Also may there be a problem with oil seals ? One or two mentions of oil leakage into the clutch area on this forum - engine or gearbox oil ?

I use the 75w-140 synthetic in the tranny only. I also use about 10% of Guard Dog moly and it shifts like butter!

They don't call the Getrag transmission a "box of rocks" for nothing. Tough but noisy especially when changing down unless your good at matching speed (rpm/speed)).

I use ear plugs!

do you ever take them off to ride a short distance, then get scared by the noises your bike makes?

I do. LOL rode to the gas station a few days ago sans helmet. 3 blocks.

in this order.... clackclackclack....clunk...tickticktick....buzzz... all systems nominal.

I use 75/90 valvoline non synth. no added issues with the heat. just that pesky leak I have right now

Ride a 34 year old Guzzi when it's hot!! (W/O ear plugs) I don't want to know where its(noise) coming from!

You just hope that all parts arrive at the destination together.

Still love the thing.

Down shift the beemer with a little "blip" and it will change slick as snot on a door knob.

If only. Been a biker for ooh err 47 years and gearbox shift is getting bad and clunky despite my -blip- clunk gearchanges. Hence my question. Maybe I am just too slow nowadays.

I'll trump your Guzzi, I've got a Harley, there ain't nothin' agricultural about a Beemer box, trust me
I use Redline Shockproof heavy duty in the FXR and it certainly helps quieten things down while improving shift performance. Don't see why it won't work well in the Beemer?

Ordered a litre bottle just to try. In the current cooler weather the shift is still better. Definitely went verkakte in the hotter (for the UK) weather.

It better be good stuff! Cost me over £10 for one litre. Poured it in and much to my surprise it was not thick like treacle. Though I guess all you oil experts could have told me that. Out for a run later with the local club and the weather is cool again. Under 20°C again.(68°F)

What grade did you go for? They make 2 or 3...... 'heavy' being the , well, heaviest funny enough....90/250 or something like that.

Found Gulf Syngear 75w-140 synthetic gear oil and put it in.
Club run was in rain, quarry slurry, cow poo and cool temperatures. Typical for Derbyshire. Maybe I was blipping earlier and not struggling to get down to neutral in a hurry from 25 mph in 5th gear, but the change felt slight easier. Time will tell.

Out with the club last night. Cool again. I do not always have time to blip between gears at low speeds and that's when the loud clunks happen. At higher spèeds the downwards changes ARE better as I blip. I conclude that the 75w/140 synthetic is not bringing anything to the party.

Out for a quick run to check the effect of remounting the hand protectors. I think my blipping on the downward gear changes is somewhat wayward and rushed. I tried to blip when I pulled in the clutch lever, BEFORE selecting the next gear, and the shift seemed quieter down to 4th gear. The noise of going from say 3rd to 1st approaching a junction at a lowish speed is horrendous because I do not (have time to) engage the clutch between changes.

Last night I overdid it. Blipped all the way down to first gear and let the clutch in with a closed throttle. Result - one stalled engine and much embarrassment. Even the non technical passenger asked me later on what I'd done!

HAHA this morning, its BEAUTIFUL weather here....must have been in a daze. my ONE stoplight was red today...I failed to blip(downshift at all) light turns just as I clutch roll to a near stop, clutch out, back on gas.

dead. LOL struggle to downshift stopped bike...give it throttle.... DEAD. repeat this 3 times.

I was in 5th apparently. hahahaha DERP!

did I say BEAUTIFUL weather? oh man..... yesterday, it was 75 with 3mph breeze, not a single cloud. love it.
