Fuel Filter

I relocated the fuel filter to outside the tank when I replaced it at around 30,000 miles .
Coming up on another filter change, and wondering if anyone has used a non-OEM filter on their bike in this instance .
The OEM filter seems a bit over priced for what you get .

AZBMWRIDER,
After cutting one apart and seeing what it is made of, you are correct in saying it is overpriced for what it is, in that you can get a much larger, high quality, automotive high pressure all metal EFI filter for less. Having to go thru that ridiculously involved fuel pump plate assembly removal routine just to replace the fuel filter is really annoying!! The only drawback with externalizing the filter is the initial cost of the extra fuel line -and- the expertise required to install it so reliability/longevity is not a concern. Non-ABS bikes have an advantage in the vacant undertank space available. Along with replacing the stock plastic fuel QDs with metal ones from BeemerBoneYard, externalizing the fuel filter is a great idea, especially if you plan on keeping the bike.

İf you consider the structure no need to use oem one. Consider using a well known brand like mahle fil etc.

Food for thought.

Given the recent failure rate of in-tank hoses, it seems to me that you have to go into the tank just as often to check and replace the hoses as the filter, especially on lower mileage bikes.
