After riding home for about 40 minutes last night, I took off my helmet and listened closely to the engine while it idled in the driveway. The left side seems to have bit of a clicking sound to it while the right side sounds rather clean. I am attempting to post a link below to the short recording I made with my iPhone. Any thoughts on what's going on? I haven't done a valve adjustment myself yet on the bike.

At the end of the recording I caught my Two Brother Racing tailpipe sound as well. Not really a big fan.

A valve adjustment might make things a bit quieter but honestly it doesn't sound too much different then most R's I've owned or been around. If you do a valve adjustment better to err on the side of too loose than too tight. As far as the exhaust note.......I'm a fan of stock (read that quiet) systems.
One note of interest---I often times use a trooper style of helmet on really hot days. After riding thru the winter with a reasonably quiet full face helmet I'm always surprised at how noisy my motor is when I start riding (not exhaust--but engine noise) with the trooper helmet. But it's the nature of the beast. "they all do that"

Mine sounds similar, but maybe less pronounced clicking. Maybe the cam chain tensioner upgrade would help? A valve adjustment - if hasn't been done in a while - wouldn't be a bad place to start. If nothing else, I feel like my bike rides better after a valve job. Placebo effect?
Maybe....

I thought for a moment about the cam chain tensioner but that's generally a noise on start-up. After the oil pressure gets up to proper levels the tensioner gets quiet. I guess it shouldn't be ruled out but my money is on a valve adjust.sstein wrote:Mine sounds similar, but maybe less pronounced clicking. Maybe the cam chain tensioner upgrade would help? Another possibility is that the shaft may be worn in the left side throttle body. Use a mechanics stethoscope or a long screw driver to listen to and for the ticking sound. If you hear it most loudly in the throttle body, chances are that the shaft is worn and causing the noise. There is a re-build kit available from member of this forum. Do a search "for throttle body re-build." I am sure you will find it.
