Re: R12 CAN hack
Got TPS and RPM figured out see pic. Couldnt wait for the Haynes manual so I started poking around the cluster. Wire colors are the same, but the pinout for the identical connector under the seat is different!?

12R CANbus facts
-Cluster Runs at 500k/s
-Pin 1, Wht/Blk = CANH
-Pin 2, Wht/Brn = CANL
-ID 0x10C = RPM, TPS and ???
If the cluster knows the TPS, I would have to think it has engine temp, what Im ultimately after. Problem is its ez to figure lights, gear position, throttle position and such since its easily manipulated while sampling the bus. Finding temp will take a bit longer. Anyway hope to have the majority R12 bus sorted relatively soon!

The first bracketed expression ("/url") should instead be "url" without the forward slash.
Pretty fancy investigating!

Looks great Wayne. Though I have no idea what you might do with this information. Bet it's fun learning. Keep posting!

Re: R12 CAN hack
Thanks Dave and Bob, going to have a supplementry display for the bikes vitals. Initially I was after just the engine temp, but finding a bunch of additional info. This morning I found the Cylinder head temp and the Oil temp! Once I get the CAN fully mapped Ill build some dedicated hardware that will fit in the cluster.Bob Ain't Stoppin' wrote:Looks great Wayne. Re: R12 CAN hack
Thanks again Bob, its really not that tuff w/some electronics knowledge. Before health care I was an embedded engineer. Just a matter of time now to sift thru all the data. Im thinking of programming something like this to display bike vitals in realtime instead of building my own circuit. http://www.mikroe.com/mikromedia/pic32/ Itll be much faster and prolly a bit cheaper than designing my own and has an accelerometer and SD reader to datalog ride data, I think itll turn out pretty cool.Bob Ain't Stoppin' wrote:Ha!
