My wife likes it and is comfortable on the back, a backrest is mandatory for her (I'm using a topbox right now and am working on something else) she does however complain about sliding forward on the seat, wish the cover was a bit more grippy.

Thanks Paul. When I got the bike home it took my wife 15 seconds to decide she didn't want to ride. If I had a back rest installed she might have given it a try. Can't say I'm dissapointed. She will be happier taking the train to Portland.

If you are 6' tall or less, I would get a bar back. I'm 5'8", and this was an absolute necessity for me.

Or not. I'm 5'7" and no barbacks. My back appreciates the slight lean forward, especially at highway speeds when the wind lifts the weight off my hands.

Turns out I have only a very slight lean forward. I'm 5'9", but fairly long arms.

I'll see how the stock seat feels on my trip next week, but so far this bike is amazingly comfortable. I don't even feel compelled to replace the levers right away.

From your post you are ready to ride a standard R12R across the continent. You don't need any gadgets. My only concern is the pillion seat puts a lot of pressure on the nether regions of the female anatomy over longish distances but an air hawk or sheepskin will fix it.
