No barbacks or risers

Does anyone know if I could buy different handlebars instead of silly looking risers?

Those Wunderlich bars won't work - '11 and later are a "fat" bar, as noted on that product page.

I think that Spiegler may sell them as well.

Spiegler doesnt show anything for the '12 R.

They're just handlebars - like in the old days any bar that will fit will work. The difference is that you'll have to work around/mod non-BMW specific bars for heated grips, etc. Maybe something off a GS would get you what you want?

I personally find some of the barbacks/risers to be almost unnoticeable and that'd be a much easier switch.

I just put a Parabellum Scout fairing on the bike. I now see more of a need for an upright position. Yes they are tapered bars. Fat in the center.

I will look at the GS bars first.

I may try the bar backs first to see how much I need for total comfort.

i put a set of risers and made a big difference, and practically unnoticeable aesthetically. the only issue was the brake line was just barely long enough.
putting a GS bar would kill the look of the bike, I wouldn't do that.

I went with different bars for a different reason, I wanted narrower bars. I did the GS thing for 60,000 miles and did not need another wide bar bike.

The OP could check with the F800 boys and girls and see if they found other options for their bikes, besides our R bars.

I did need to use the risers that came with my used bike so the switchgear would clear the tank. With the combo of low bars and risers it is about a stock height.

Just for poops and giggles, here is my set up.

Oh ya, my Scout fairing is due here in about two weeks!

Yer gonna love the scout fairing. Mine has been on for almost a week. Today I had earphones in listening to music. 30 mph or 80 it sounded good with out changing the volume. NO buffeting at any speed just a mild breeze on my face with a 3/4 helmet and visor. I picked up 5 mpg. Color match is almost perfect. Wonderlich was out of the running because no tall windshield.

I rode 600 miles saturday and sunday with it. Nothing but the best.

The pics on one of the sites of Hart's bike convinced me. I'm also doing the color match thing.

No pics posted yet, its covered with bugs. I originally had the 18" stock shield. I was still getting a lot of helmet noise, so I went with the 20". Its effin perfect. I sit in a pocket of quiet. I look just over the top. Mounting is easy peasy.

The definition I always used for my BMW, all 3 of them in the last twenty some years. Its like sitting in a chair with a fan on you.
I think the scout is the only answer to no buffeting. This is quieter than my RT.

With the new shield I feel the need even more for the barbacks. I wanted to wait until I had the fairing set up how I wanted it before messing any more with the bars.

I am 5'7" with a 30" inseam and short arms.

I went with three screens, it was an additional $50 per screen for number 2 & 3. 10" tinted, 18" & 20" clear.

I have over 30k miles on my scout fairing. High quality kit that fits me well. Run a 22inch screen in cool weather, often with a Touratech screen extender. Use a tinted 10 inch screen in hot weather.

This scout fairing has not held still long enough to take a picture.

Its been on less than a week and already made 1,000 miles.
Tomorrow its getting a bunch more then off to the coast this weekend.

Rad, what brand is the handlebar brackets and where did you get them? That looks like it would work well with the F800ST handlebars I put on my R1200R. My riding position was too upright. This took a little load off my lower back and changed the ergonomics to something sportier.

They make a bunch of different ones; I think mine are close to a 2" rise.
