Last evening coming home from a couple hr ride, at 318klm it died 2klm from the nearest gas station with the computer telling me that I had 67klm to go. Based on my 07 r1200r this would have been just right. Also my fuel light came on about 5klm before I ran out.
BMW you suck ass for making a middle age and overweight man push a bike for 2.3klm.
Oh Yea, I put in 21.68 liters, what ever that is in gallon's. That's just about 200 miles. That's about 7 ltrs to 100klm or about 37mpg... Not so great.

That's 5.72 gallons here in the colonies. Yeah, you really did run out. But I bet if you had leaned the bike left as far as you could, you would have got enough over to the fuel pump to ride that 2 km.
I deliberately ran my 2011 R1200R empty today. With the MPG feature indicating 47 MPG the bike started to lose power at 226 miles. I didn't try to wiggle any extra distance out of the bike by tilting or shaking it as I had a gallon of gas in my saddlebag. I didn't measure the capacity as I haven't topped up the tank yet. I am expecting a set of Clearwater lights next week and want the tank nearly empty in case it has to be removed for the install.
Interestingly enough, the miles-to-empty feature had me runnig out at 209 miles, so on my bike, it's not optimistic.
I got 264 mi out of my R1200R yesterday. If I had been keeping up with the mileage I would have been afraid. I filled it with 5.1 gals on the side stand.

Unless the bike has been tested-to-empty several times with similar results, I would not presume that the OBC will always generate the same distance-to-empty figure.

You guys are incredible and obviously have bigger b---'s than me! I would only try that if I had a gallon can strapped to the back.
I'm not extremely familiar with the 1200r as mine is an 1150 but I think 5.4 gal is the listed capacity on mine and about 4.5 is all you can really get to.

Today my bike started coughing on acceleration and on uphills after about 240 miles, though the OBC did not yet say I was under 40 miles from dry. I pulled over and put in 5.8 gallons, at around 247 miles. Another 40 miles? I don't think so!!!

When my bike was new, miles to empty was right on. As it got older, The gauge started reading fuller and fuller. Then it started reading 1/2 tank when it was empty. then it went all Whaco. Full, empty, 1/2 what ever it felt like about 2 weeks ago.
Its almost a year old and has 20,000 miles on it.
Gauge says empty all the time and the low fuel light is on even after I fill it. Still under warranty so it needs to be fixed.
I have run out at 260 miles (planned with extra gas on bike) and 250 miles unexpected but only because there was no fuel in the town I though had some.
If its my biggest problem with this bike, I will just smile and deal with it. Its not like the FD went out.

Did that when it was new, rode the bike with spare gas. Miles to empty was 0 when it sputtered.
This summer it ran out with 20 miles to go. Trip meter was at 250 miles, so I knew I was out. I can't blame that one on BMW. It was my own screw up.
OBC only knows what the gauge (fuel strip) tells it.
I never use that function of my computer. I leave it on temperature. When the light goes on or when the little bars get down to two or three I start looking for gas.

On '09 R1200R, the MTE was dead on. One 300 mile tank, the MTE said 9 miles and it took 5.7+ gal (Natchez Trace traveling at the speed limit)
On my barely broken in '13 R1200R, it said 17 to go when it sputtered and died - fortunately just before a downhill to the exit ramp with a gas station near the bottom. Guess I will be a bit more proactive.
I did have a CalSci screen on the '09 and the '13 is currently naked (and I may leave it that way at least until the leaves fall - air flow is much better with the new instrument pod.
Altitude, headwind and speed have an effect on mpg. I was empty on the road in Colorado with 170 miles on the trip meter. State Highway patrol bailed me out with 2 gallons of free gas!

Today, at 248 miles, my bike coughed on acceleration. I wheeled into a gas station and checked the OBC: it said I had 80 miles to go, and the red light was not on yet. Being only 8 miles from home (and a nearby gas station) I hit the freeway. A mile or so later I began to lose power, even at a steady 55. As I entered the onramp the bike died. I swerved hard a few times, stood up on the pegs and bounced hard, and the engine started again as I right turned through the (thankfully) green light; the gas station was just ahead on the left, and I accelerated toward it. The bike coughed and died definitively! Luckily I was able to coast across the double-yellow and through a gap in ongoing traffic, and I performed a dead-stick landing at the pump, bone dry. The bike took 5.901 gallons on the side stand to the automatic shutoff. I think that's (a) a record for me, (b) a warning to not be so stupid, and (c) an indication that my second fuel strip is giving up the ghost. Back to using just the tripmeter!

Fueling up at 180-200mls from last fuel up.Using trip odometer No.1 zeroing down at fuel up.Driving stile let's to say avarege.Avarage fuel consumption is 4.5 liters=1.2gall./100kms(62mls).I do not care abouth fuel strips/warning light.Fueling up approx.15 liters(cca 4 gallons).I am 5'6"tall-or short-73Kgs(165lbs)heavi or light.Trip odometer makes a good sense for me.Never run out of fuel, not even close to it.
