My relatively new R with Givi E21 luggage and the high screen. Used the high screen only once and for me at 5'9" it didn't work as well as I would have liked. Going to sell the high screen.

We'll be out there the first weekend of October. Just me and a buddy on an FJR... might have some folks from Fredericksburg join for a day ride on the last leg. Should be a great trip... longest we've camped on bikes. When are you leaving? A group of us (6, possibly 7 riders - 2 Rs) are riding out there from Austin Oct. 20.

That would be 170, and it is an awesome road - one of the best in Texas.Lost Rider wrote:Ahhh... Texas.

It's not much of a road but a real beauty, and there's locked gates.... had to cut through a fence to get out and got busted by the border patrol who turned me over to the sheriff.
Good times in Texas.

Wow. Love the pic from inside the old car. Really great shot. Is that film or digital? Focus/depth of field is very cool. (I don't know anything about photography, so don't nerd out on me.Lost Rider wrote:It's not much of a road but a real beauty, and there's locked gates.... had to cut through a fence to get out and got busted by the border patrol who turned me over to the sheriff.

I am always amazed at how big and beautiful that area of Texas is. Yeah, gotta be careful near the border. Border Patrol is all over the place. This will be my third trip there. It's becoming an October tradition for us.
One of the guys riding with us is a huge fan of yours, been following you online for a long time (I'm a recent fan). We're the two Rs in the group. Thanks for sharing your adventures with the community and helping to make motorcycling more meaningful.

Wow, thank you!
That photo was taken with a Nikon D90 DSLR, you should be able to find that spot on your ride if you're in the area.
Here's my ride report talking about the times in these photos, and a little more.

Have a great ride, as you are well aware and I agree, that part of Texas is pretty much the most scenic you'll find in that big ole' state!

Re: The R1200R Photo Discussion Thread!
Now all these pictures make me want an R1200R even more!! I test rode one last week.. went into a BMW dealer just out of curiosity ... since I know I want another bike (currently I have a Honda VLX 600) that is NOT a cruiser and more versatile.. I do a lot of in town riding and a bit of longer distance riding, and wanted to go camping with the bike.. as much as I first loved my bike, it is just not what I need .. great first bike though... Anyways.. after going into the BMW dealership I ended up test riding a 800r and the 1200r... I liked the 800, but I couldn't wipe the smirk of my face after riding the 1200r..I nearly bought it right then and there... and now I am getting ready to sell my bike and safe up for a 1200r.
Lost Rider: it's partly your fault
that I want the bike even more now than I did after the test ride.. I stumbled upon your posts about your Arkansas trip with the 12r (on advrider.com) and was amazed what you were able to do with that bike!!
Now I can't wait to go on a camping trip with it!! And I don't even have one yet!
Sorry no pictures to post... since I don't have the 12r yet.. (only pics I have are of my honda vlx)
Great pictures here, glad to see that so many people love their 12r.

Another test ride victim!
Welcome to the forum.
Thank you for the comments, it seems BMW missed the mark of not having any promotional photos of the R doing what many have found around here it's very capable of = light duty dual sport riding.
You don't need a big heavy Touratech'd out GS to ride on gravel roads and have fun, plus the R just looks better and rides on pavement a hell of a lot nicer!
Good luck finding your R1200R, just remember, black is the fastest color.
Catchina,
What's better than an R1200R?
Two of them!
I've never gone anywhere with another R, looks like a good time.
Which one is yours?

I don't want to 'clog' this picture threat up with too much chat and no pictures to show....just wanted to say that black IS the color I want
The bad thing is I even have a least already of all the add-ons I want to get for the bike I don't even have yet!

yes indeed, mine has the BMW touring screen and GS cylinder guards. Here is another picture, on our way to Lake Placid. We also had an 800 GS traveling with us.Lost Rider wrote: Catchina,

As a result - I've never felt any urge whatsoever to turn back at signs like this. The roadster does just fine by me

Nice!
No need to stress over a little gravel....

Nice, you have the bike that won't lose it's camping gear from using bungie cords.

No worries, that's why this thread is here.
And to keep the photos flowing, here's a couple photos from earlier this year with a different look to them.
