Non-ABS Rockster?

Simple question (that I can't find the answer to):

I had an R1150R (Non-ABS) for a long time, and now have an R1150GSA (Also Non-ABS). I'm looking for another Roadster or maybe a Rockster to compliment the GSA which is used as a sidecar tug. I definitely do not want an early generation BMW ABS bike!

Are all Rocksters fitted with ABS or did some come out without ABS like the Roadster (ABS optional)? The few I've seen all have had ABS fitted, so I'm either going to drop the Rockster from my list or keep looking.

That's the way of things.

Started looking a while back. I checked out 4 of the bikes here in town (not for sale) and all were ABS. I started looking further afield and found two more ABS models at dealers, and another couple of private ones, both of which were ABS. I gave up and went back to looking at Roadsters, then spotted one in traffic without the ABS ring on the front wheel. Hence the question.

Today I went back to the classifieds and found a few more non-ABS, so it looks like they are around after all. There is a low km black and copper one at a bike shop now that I believe is non-ABS, so I'll check it out this weekend if it's still around. Going price here with low kms (30-40,000) is $8-10,000. Considering the AU $ is on par with the US $, you can see how we get stung on Beemer prices.

My 2004 Rock is non-abs, its one of the reasons I bought it, you could get them either way in 04, just had to pay extra for the ABS version, keep looking, they are out there.

Hi MIXR, there are three non-ABS models on bikesales.com including the black/bronze one at the ACT dealer you might be looking at. Mine is an 04 model non-ABS new from the factory so they are out there in Oz. Good luck hunting one down budy.

Thanks razz. Yep - Looking at the CMC one tomorrow hopefully. Loved my old R and should never have sold it. The GSA sidecar is fun, but hard work. Sometimes you just need a bike to go for a blast on, and my little Suzi GS500 doesn't cut it! Cheers, Mick.

Hi Mick, how did you go? What condition was the rockster in? $9,900 is a price that can be knocked a bit me reckons but its low 33,600 might not let it get knocked down to much. Cant tell if it had pannier frames on from the photo. If you need some frames I think I still have a pair in the shed. the staintune muffler and bagster cover are a bonus to. Good luck.

Didn't get there. Got bogged down pulling apart the old Roadster to access the busted driveshaft, then had a mate from work turn up to fix a split water line out the back. Gotta love winter in Canberra. Leave a cup of water in an evaporative cooler line and it freezes and splits the copper pipe!

I looked at the Rockster last week. It has side-case rails, but no bags. I have my bags on the GSA with all my touring bits in them, so no issues there. It has the Bagster cover, but no bag. It has the good Givi rear rack, but no top case. Wish I hadn't sold mine! Overall condition looks ok, but obviously haven't delved into the service books. Wouldn't matter as I'd do a full fluids change and mechanical service anyway. The low kms are genuine.

It's all become a bit more complicated as well. I was just going to trade my commuter (Suzi GS500) on it, but the mate who did the water pipe repair has a kid who is looking for a 'LAMS' motorcycle, so I might have a buyer for it rather than trade it.

Anyway, the sun looks like shining for a few days so I'll take the GS500 to work and scoot over during the week. It's more about what $$$ they want along with my trade than the Rockster itself. I'm pretty sure it will be ok. I'll let you know. Mick.

I am guessing we kind of have it good in the states, a used Rockster around here you are looking at 5500.00-7000.00, with bags and extras. I bought mine brand new in 2004 for 9500.00 out the door, non-abs, but with the touring windshield, and hard bags. They really haven't held their value here.

Ditched the Rockster. The one I was looking at was a bit rough around the edges. Looked like it had been down hard on the right side at some stage, and had signs of having work done on the swing-arm and final drive. Maybe prang damage?

Anyway, I took the opportunity to test ride a few other machines. Found an interesting beast with only 11,000 kms. Not bad for a 2007 model. Immaculate condition too. Even has the same sort of switch-gear as my GSA! I pick it up next Tuesday. Couldn't help it - Too much fun.
