Givi Screen Model no. 147A + A5100A Fitting Kit to R1200R

Post by jrvip1 »

I've read loads on different types of screens here to fit to my 2011 R1200R Classic. There does not seem to be any mention of anyone trying this one out. I've just purchased one with the kit on eBay for £101 and getting it fitted next week. It's cheap enough to discard if not suitable.

It seems as good as any of the other ones out there but even so it would be good to hear of anyone else's experience with this screen.

In had on of these fitted to my 2009 R1200R. it worked well and gave reasonable protection. However, I was never happy with the mounting which only used headlamp mounting bolts and no triangulation(hope you understand what I mean!). Hence screen was prone to move/pivot back at speed. Eventually braced it but cannot remember where I fitted braces. Not an elegant solution to a badly executed design.

That was one of my concerns when I saw the kit and compared it to the BMW original bracket that is used for something like the Cee Bailey. I'll go with this is a temporary solution and if ok will keep it.

Hi Guys,

I am in Cape Town, South africa.
I just fitted a Kappa screen to my bike. I bought it last week from http://www.advrider.co.za/product_info. ... cts_id=173 and fitted it on the weekend. I looked at the Givi screen that jrvip1 posted and saw that my Kappa was identical even down to the model number 147A.

What I like about the mounting is that the plastic part that allows the adjustment point is "WWW toothed" to stop any movement. example of what I mean (I forgot to take a picture of the loose parts. Image
My old MRA screen did not have this and I had to keep tightening the adjustment screw as it moved at high speed (wind friction move the screen.)
I was impressed with the manufacturing of the bracket and the overall design.
The entire process required loosing 4 screws ( do one side at a time) installing the brackets and then replacing with new screws and spaces. Then it was installing the screen on the brackets and adjusting it. 20 minutes later I had the new screen fitted.

I have taken the bike a bit and I am loving the screen so far.

Here are some pictures of the screen and mount points and bracket.

The screen from the front. it does not distract from the look of the bike.

The screen from the seat.

the screen from my helmet hight (what I see)

Yup - that's identical except for the badge. Mine was fitted today. At about 40mph + the wind noise around my helmet was deafening - worse than not having the fairing at all. At around 70mph, the noise was even worse but the strange thing was that I could shoulder check real easy without wind blast fighting to look back ahead. Even tucking down the noise is horrendous as the turbulence is still hitting the top of the helmet. If I can just get rid of the noise, then I will be real happy with this quality product. I'm 5'10 and 29" leg on a standard seat and helmet is a Schuberth C3. This evening I've adjusted the screen tilt to try and give a better flow and tomorrow I'll test and report. [-o<

I had one of those on my bike and I still have the windshield as a matter of fact. It worked well enough for me I just never fell in love with the looks of it. I never liked the tall "plexan sail" look of the C Bailys either.

Well I adjusted the rake, but no difference and so I set it back to its original upright position. I've since added a Wunderlich Wind Deflector and this has made a positive change. Problem is looking at a great metal object in your field of vision might take a bit of getting used to - if at all. It's all starting to look a bit Heath Robinson - but if it's a solution and it works, well then hey ho, what the hell!
