Tall rider with seat issues

Post by viking89 »

Hi guys,

My 04 r1150r came with the low seat and this thing is killing me. I can only stand going 50 miles at a time before my butt and legs are screaming.
I'm 6'2, 240 lb. I've been looking into Rick Meyers seats or the Russell Day long seat. Do any tall and big guys have any experience with these seats? What kind of improvements did you see? Are there some other brands I should check out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Right now all I can really use my bike for is around town, and I would like to be able to take some trips on it.

Thanks

Viking

I am 6'2" with a 34" inseam. I use the BMW tall seat with a sheepskin butt pad. It is very comfortable. I wish it were just a wee bit taller, but then I guess I should have bought a GS.

Then I cut a piece of foam memory pad from a mattress pad we were discarding and put it under the sheepskin pad. To me, that was just about right, but it looks awful.

I have not tried any of the after market seats.

6'1" here and I have had some of the same issues. I use an Airhawk cushion which wont raise you up but is very comfortable for your bum. I'd look at the custom seats. I had one made for an F650 by Riches in Seattle. Very custom built and it was wonderfully comfortable. You go to him and he builds your seat while you wait - takes most of a day - and you let him know how he's doing as it progresses. Accomodations to put you up if necessary! I'd do that again.

I am 6'2'' and 220#. I used a medium height seat with a sheepskin, and Suburban Machinery foot peg lowering kits. You will need the extended shifter. I do not need or use the extended brake pedal. This combination works well for me. I got the Suburban kits off E-Bay for $35.

I may be late here, but I've owned a Russel Day Long (Before it was Russell). To my mind (and butt) they are the best choice around. On my current bike, I have a Bill Mayer Saddle and a peg lowering kit. I'm 6'1" and this combination seems to work best for me (in addition to elevating the bars).
