West Virginia
I'm throwing this out as bait. I have a bad bike Jones after spending 5.5 weeks in the Porsche criss-crossing the country. I figure I could clear it up with a 3-4 day ride in WV. Motels, not camping. I know where to stay and what roads are wonderful, and which are just outstanding (there are no bad roads in WV..)
Thinking around the end of Sept or beginning of October. Heat will be gone, weather is usually outstanding and there are no leaf-peepers in WV to get in the way.

Re: West Virginia
I could be intersted in this idea, I've been thinking of an early October ride and haven't been able to pick where to go. WV is a decent enough thought, keep me in mind.

With a bit of arm twisting - the time could be extended. Have a few things going around the homefront that may require my attention quickly, so don't want to promise what I can't deliver..mogu83 wrote:Only four days, your easily satisfied. You are retired - right?

Re: West Virginia
My thinking at the moment (subject to change..)
Do to the Last Chance Rally in NJ (www.lastchancerally.com), Sept 23rd-25th.
Sunday Sept 25th - Leave Last Chance and head for Stephen's City VA (be about a nice 5 hour ride via backroads..)
Sunday night - overnight in Stephen's City, then head up into the hills of WV (some nice routes from VA to WV I know of..) There is a great Greek/Italian resturant in Stephen's City that I usually go to. I usually stay at the Comfort Inn (they let us park under the canopy.. and they have a pool to sit around and BS..)
Monday - Sept 26th, head up into the moutains. Meeting place for anyone joining us on Monday AM would be Seneca Rocks on Rt 28. See if we can stay at Boyland Station (small old motel with resturant out front) in Green Bank WV. Ride around that area, visit Green Bank (always an interesting free tour..) No WIFI or cell phone in the valley (it's a designated national radio-free zone..)
Tuesday - Sept 27th, head on to Snowshoe (bottom of the mountain.) It ain't great, but the price isn't awful. There is edible food and the amazing Berryl across the road. No WIFI unless you go across the road.
Wednesday - Sept 27th, head the long way around to either Charleston WV (capital city) or directly to Caanan Valley state park (motel rooms, reasonable prices, some WIFI at the lodge, good resturant, pools, indoor-outdoor, hot tub, lot of deer.) If we go to Caanan Valley - figure on 2 nights, Weds and Thursday. If we go to Charleston, then we head to Caanan Valley on Thursday night.
Friday - Sept 28th, head for home. Doing it highway, it's about an 7-8 hour ride for me from Caanan Valley. A bit
of a grind, but doable. If anyone wants to stretch it out a day - could do backroads back to Stephen's City, stay overnight and I head for home on Saturday AM. Still a long day - but it's mostly all backroads.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: West Virginia
Hmmm..
Did I scare everyone off with a schedule? If you are interested - post here, or ping me directly.
I'm thinking of adding this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Alle ... tic_Asylum to the ride:

I've been there a few times but never took the time to take a tour. Figure it's about time to take the time.. so, probably Weds might be spent in Weston WV. There is a Holiday Inn nearby, or the Stonewall Jackson state park has some really nice accommodations not too far away.
