Seat changes 2011 vs 2007?

Post by Woland »

Have a line on a high comfortseat from a crashed R1200R 2011 but cant determine if it will fit on my 2007, and no way to test fit it before purchase, so I thought I´d check with the wonderful and wise people that frequent this forum for any insight.

Part numbers seem to differ, 52537719484 on the '11 and 52537721958 on the '07, but for the "standard high seat 835mm" its the same, 52537706418. I'm confused.

Thanks in advance for the help ;)

I had an '09 that I hated the seat on. When I tested the '11 I liked the seat much better. I took the seat off my '09 and the seat from the '11 snapped right in place. I'm fairly sure it will fit since most of the general parts from '06 - '09 seem to be the same.

Thanks for the info, considering that some of the seats have the same part number for both bikes it does seem likely that they all fit.

I found this posting very helpful! My 2009 seat is one of the worst in memory. Amazing that BMW sent it out of the factory with it. My AirHawks have to be on for anything beyond an hour in the saddle. I have also noticed that the 11' seems to have had much more reshaping for passenger comfort. When someone has made and lived with this stock 2011 change-over, please post because you would be the best to "feel" the difference and I would like to hear about your mates opinion too. Thanks, Marc

I think the 2011 models come with the BMW Comfort Saddle as stock.

The optional Comfort Saddle is what I put on my 2009 model after 600 miles of suffering with the old BMW "bench" seat, which came as stock on my bike.

The old "bench" seat is unbearable and should be used in lieue of waterboarding for terrorist interrogations. IMHO.

Ended up ordering a new "comfortseat high" for my '07. Its way better than the standard, but the extra 30mm in height didn't make as big a difference as I expected. Will probably look into a footpeg lowering kit later on.

I have the "Low Comfort" seat on my '11 1200R. It is fairly comfortable compared to most stock seats. Time will tell if I keep it. My wife seems to like the passenger portion, but she needs a backrest. It would appear I need to get a top case to have a back rest. I am dissapointed as to the availabity of aftermarket parts for my 2011 R1200R.

You comfort seat guys must have long legs! My inseam is 28 inches and with the stock comfort seat I couldn't get on my 2011 bike unless I put my left foot on the peg. My kind dealer did a free swap with the sport seat off the demo bike I originally rode - much better but after an hour or so I need to stand on the pegs to let the blood back to my rear end. I think I can live with that.
Oh, and IMHO the bike's lines flow a lot better with the sport seat fitted.

I have a 34" inseam and could easily do with another 30mm in seat height. Not that seat height is a problem for me with the high comfort seat, but for it to be ideal for me it should be a little higher.

The upside is I already have the coming winters farkle shopping planned. Amongst some other things a foot peg lowering kit is on the list.
